I can understand that it is hugely frustrating when you are just trying to get things done.
As dacouch has said, I am here to help, I've been around a while. I'll happily look into what we can do from this end, but a little bit more info is a necessary.
My email address is rebecca.sibley@norwich-union.co.uk.
I hope we can get something sorted soon for you.

Andy,
I presume by now that your claim has been resolved but if not the actions of both Asprea and NU fall well short of FSA requirements. Perhaps you should consider contacting them at this stage although utimately the Financial Ombudsman is your last port of call if your clain cannot be resolved satisfactorily. The address to write to is Financial Ombudsmen Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London, E14 9SR.
Unfortunately, as you can see from the forum site, your story is not uncommon and although Asprea was set up with good intentions the mere fact that it is a hugh organisation means that claims do regularly get mishandled in varying repects and capacity. NU are also continually striving to reduce their costs introducing various ways of avoiding giving claimants what they are entitled to; the most recent being the offer to cash settle claims albeit at considerably less cost than they would expect to pay if repair work is carried out.
It may be too late now but should you have cause to claim again remember that whoever your insurers appoint is working in their interst not yours so if possible seek independant advice before agreeing anything.0 -
no mate it is STILL ongoing
in total to date i have had 2 surveys by surveyors,
1 by aspreas builders
2 by my builders
and anoher 1 this wed by NU assigned surveyor, called oriel i beleive.
strangely enough, asprea builders said that my builders quotation was about right.
funny how i was offered 5 grand less than that to cash settle.
keep you posted.

I had similar problems with Asprea when they surveyed and NU were very reluctant to do anything about it. After registering a complaint and threatening NU with the ombudsman we eventually got the work re-surveyed by Oriel who arranged for the work to be done promptly."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The best advice anyone in the trade would give you is do not use Aspreas (Even some NU staff advise that informally).
Get a quote from a local builder who you know and trust and get them to do the work, providing their price is the same or lower then NU will let you use them (If they are more you can sometimes pay the difference). Your local builder could do with the work and in the current times you should get an even better service than normal as they won't have much other work for them to pop off and do in between.
If you have any problems with Asprea email Becuss on rebecca.sibley@norwich-union.co.uk and she will try and help.
P.S I wonder what Becuss would say about Asprea when she is off duty and had a few bevvies!!!0 -
P.S Norwich Union are a good Insurer, you just need to avoid Asprea and keep them under a tight reign...0

oriel are coming on wed to fully survey the job.this will be asessment of works no 6.
i wonder if there will be any movement this week.
i beleive beccus is watching the process.0 -
Hopefully she will pull a few strings and have a word in a few peoples ear which will smooth things out a bit. Like I said NU are a good company but you often need someone at NU to bang a few heads together if things go off track0

I have used them for several properties and had good service in the past. I shall be looking for someone with a UK call centre :money: next time.
