The whole deal for asprea is to first disallow claims then if they cant get out of them to do as little work as possible n the claim and keep the cost down
WHY because they were given a pot of money to deal with all the Claims and any money that is left is profit , so they use the cheapest subcontractors and materials and leave us policyholders with shoddy workmanship afte a claim
If you ring NU all you get is pushed back to asprea , this is not how insurance should be dealt with

Exactly what happened to me. I shall never use NU again, but I doubt they will care :p

You do not have to use Aspera, you can use a local builder and this is the best bet in 99% of cases

Very true, but my contract is with NU and my complaint is they were more interested in supporting their sub-contractor than helping their client.

  • although my claim is now settled (albeit 2000 pounds less than my builders quote),
    and my girls foot cut.
i have been left with the feeling that i wasnt taken seriously, and because i refused to use aspreas contractors (see original post) the whole claim process was purposefully delayed to try and make me use there contractors.
so now i have to cut corners and compromise on repairs.
    never
    never
    ever
    again
will i use a cowboy outfit that employs untrained cowboys to do part of a second rate job.

can we use a building surveyor to get an accurate estimate of costs and use this to justify a realistic payout to use our own contractors?

    Hi

I have once again read through these posts and am surprised to see the situaion has not changed since my last comments.

I have found this on the Government job Centre site asking for Surveyors.
Please read the job spec and you will see why there are so many problems.

I do sugest that everyone sends this post to the Customer service teams of the Insurance companies asking if this is their practice.
It shows that these companies do not use qualified Surveyors.
The spec dose not require any qualifications, only an understanding of buildings?????????????????????

Do you want people to prepare specifications and quotes without some level of professional indemnity on your homes???

I agree with your Survey1, Insurers tend to send out people with Building Experience to "Asesse" the job and then report back plus get a quote from the Insurers Approved Contractors.

They only tend to use qualified building surveyers on large claims due to the fees involved (Most building claims average between £700 and £1500)

    Hi
Its a shame that these companies dont feel they need qualified people. If they had quallified Surveyors working on the complex jobs. Then Trainee Surveyors on recorgnised traing schemes could mop up all the simple jobs. Unfortunatly the business is developed on short term thinking with companies like Asprea acting as middle men. Maybe the long term plans have been directed by the interesting Accountants that looked at the banking industry. Limited values and short term thinking is the downfall of this country...

    Any comments gratefully recieved..
