I agree with you, if you have to go through the over seas call centre its a pain, I'm a broker so we normally bypass those and know the right people to talk to0

Andy,
I'm not sure from your posting how Asprea/NU are calculating your entitlement. Unfortunately Asprea's schedule of rates is somewaht antiquated and they are unable to demonstrate on what their prices are based as it is an old bespoke Mowlem schedule that has long since been lost (Mowlem being the company from which Asprea was developed).
Needless to say that most of the contractors that Asprea use struggle to make their rates pay and regularly cut corners because of this and the generally poor scoping of works by their Surveyors. This also means that any offer to cash sette is also low, as I previously inferred.
If I knew vaguely in which part of the country you were in I may be able to look at your property and offer more direct advice. If you would care to post this information I will get back to you.
All the best and keep plugging away.

Thanks Dave I've been racking my brain trying to remember Asprea's old name, thanks for reminding me. They weren't any better when they were Mowlems0

all i know guys is that my builders quote was 7925, the latest (asprea) contractor said that wasnt far off the mark.
and yet they are still only offering 3k.which hardly covers materials never mind labour.
im just getting tired of this now, and im hoping that oriel will scope the work and perhaps be a lot closer to my builders quote.
i dont mind "putting to" but cannot see why i have to
1) put 5k into the repair myself,or
2)compromise on the repairs
3)be forced into using aspreas contractors cause they are the cheapest and have the ability to put in a variance order for more funds when they run out.(fairly immediately im told)
at the end of the day all we want is to get our lives and kitchen back in order.

Please beccus I know you read MSE reguarly, sort Andys claim out, it sounds like a right mess and I bet with your connections you could get some people to see sense and sort this poor chaps claim out. He buys a NU policy for peace of mind and Asprea are causing no end of problems, if his other quote is reasonable and is for doing the correct work just tell Asprea to do one and authorise the "Proper" builder to do the work.0

Just found this thread, Nearly 2 years ago i knocked an ornament from the windowsil into my spa bath, didnt break the ornament just put a blinking big hole in the bath and chipped the sink before it fell into the bath, called NU who said that yes i did have a claim. Asprea were asigned the job. They sent in the sub contractor who replaced the bath with another spa bath but half the internal size than the other, but i didnt know til it was installed. Anyway i phoned them up and they basically said tough, i'd signed the paperwork and that was that, in the end i had to go back to NU to complain that the new bath was not the same as what had been taken out and they arranged for another to be fitted. It took nearly 3 months from start to finish. They finally fitted the new bath with no problem.
When i came to getting my new insurance quote and i found out how much the claim went through for i was gutted, the cost just to put a new bath in came out at £3872.92p. I cant see how any of the works carried out cost that much. There was no re decoration needed other than to take the first line of wall tiles off to slip the bath under.
I asked if i could get a local builder in to do the repair work and was told no.
But Hey ho, all sorted now but i would NEVER use Asprea again.
Thought i was the only one who had a problem with them.My beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0 -
Thats the ironic thing with Asprea, they are not normally very cheap.0
