    Hi there,

I am not sure where to place a 'shopping' question so hope this is the best place.

All I'd maily like to know is what are the few basic items of Tesco's own brand that are any good - in particular I would like to buy washing up liquid, paper towels, bleach, toilet roll etc as these can be bought in bulk, quite cheap. However if they're no good can someone warn me what's worth spending on and what isn't... I hate washing up liquid that doesn't wash properly for example, so always stick with Fairy but can you suggest others that are cheaper and as good?

Sainsbury's would be another place I could shop more from to gain Nectar points, but are they expensive overall?

Thanks all, this is my first step into cutting down the cost of the weekly shop ;o)

there value pure orange and apple juice is lovely.

Don't know if u have a Nettos near u but I buy there cheap marg (24p for 500g) and it tastes really nice and makes beautifull cakes n buns.

Tx Helen - will add those to my current order - I want to get all the heavy items delivered by Tesco, that will last a while too.

Thanks all - I will save that link, I plan to use Tesco & 'beat them' on the £3.99 charge (I only get deliveries Tues/Wed when cheapest) by ordering lots of heavy items - sorry delivery man ;op

If it helps I've found the washing up liquid brilliant (although you may need a slightly bigger dollop than fairy) - and it doesn't cause my excema to flare up like fairy & ecover do

I buy the following items from the value range and they're fine:

    Kitchen roll
    mircofibre cloths
    bananas
    cooked ham
    corned beef
    pasta
    potatoes
    kids yoghurts
    tinned tomatoes
    energy saving light bulbs
    oven chips
    fresh oj (chilled)
and last but by no means least...Gin!!!

All sound great - I'm being bad and looking at my groceries from work - worse still, probably adding gin to it now ;o)

Hopefully the washing up liquid is a real saving, rather than saving half the price but having to use twice as much...

    Thanks all x
