Okay, so I've just phoned Dell after umming and arring about getting this laptop as I already have one but it's slow and outdated now and maybe I can get a bit for it on Ebay as this deal is too good to turn down... Anyway, Dell are now saying the phones are so busy the ordering system software is very slow! A Dell person (from India) phoning me back. Am ordering the basic with a resource disk. Don't use it on the move very much and it's just a backup so don't need all the extras. He tried the hard sell and I just kept saying no - which probably means he won't call me back... :rotfl: We shall see. But to carry on the theme of the ridiculous stuff they are telling you to try to get you upgrade, I was told the 256 memory would not be enough to let me connect to the internet! I told him that was fine, all the time sniggering to myself. Ah, if ONLY they had seen my old PC before my current Dell desktop... that was truly steam driven and slow as it was, it could definitely connect to the internet. He also tried the hard sell on upgrading from the 90 day warranty but I told him I was a computer expert
so could do more to correct any problems that arise than Dell can! Okay, so not strictly true - I'm handy but not THAT good - but I have quite a few friends who are and a GREAT little computer shop down the road who have bailed me out on many an occasion. I await but not with baited breath as blue is not really my colour...
The world is full of crashing bores...

I was told the computer would stop working after 3 months unless I added more memory, bigger hard drive and screen, and a carry case.
Disgraceful for such a big company.
I really don't think Dell will be around for much longer.
My laptop was last reported at Shannon on the UPS tracking system

GODDAMMIT
realised sometime during the night that I didn't actually ahve an order ref no. from Dell, so rang them this afternoon.... tehy had no record of my order..... put me through to the assistant who took my order.... voicemail, will be in tomorrow....
Rang back, got put throught to someone. started taking my order and told me she'd email me a spec. I asked for her name and ext. no. She wouldn't give me her ext. no, so I asked to speak to her manager- she put me on hold than hung up
Now I was raging! :mad::mad::mad:
Rang again, asked straight away to speak to a manager. He was very apologetic, and helped me place the order (hassled me for upgrades)
Eventually ordered... now got bigger screen, bigger battery and 1 yr warranty (cost me an extra £18)
Total cost £360ish
serves me right for being so bloody smug yesterday evening
(i have confirmations and order numbers etc now)0 -

I would give it another go, not on the 0870 no. Chances of him ringing back are pretty damn slim.
My order has just gone through now after i chased, they do not want to sell these.0 -
Well, I rang back as I decided too that they weren't gonna ring back. Eventually got through, spoke to a nice lady who said she'd email me a quote... I'm still waiting. They have another 20 mins before I phone again. I won't be so nice next time... I'm tired, I get grumpy... I can't help it!!!The world is full of crashing bores...

You must ask for their name first.
marlowtech posted the below method to make sure your order is placed.
1) Call through to HOME sales (must be home) 01344 860456
2) As soon as the person answers (India or Ireland, doesn't matter) get the person's name in full.
3) Say to the person, "Hi Vijay/Bob/Jane, just to let you know that I have tried to place an order with Dell a couple of times now and had the phone put down on me (say this whether you have or haven't). I have spoken to customer services and they have told me that this call is being logged. All I have to do is call them back and they will track this back to you via my telephone number (this is true by the way!). I only mention this Vijay/Bob/Jane, because I don't want you to get into a discplinary position with your employers (apparently it is a cardinal sin to hang up on a customer)
4) Now, please can I order one of these laptops that you are advertising at £2990 -
they're going to be busy with their discaplinary hearings over the next few weeks aren't they!0

Success! Thanx talkshop. Couldn't use the 01344 number as it's the main Dell office and they shut at 5, so had to use the 0870 number. Bit of a delay but finally got through to Naveen, told him the problems I'd had and he was great. No hard sell, explained I already had a Dell Desktop and wanted the Notebook as backup and we were away! I have an order number AND a customer reference number, which I am presuming is a GOOD THING! :T
I have to say, I've had worse traumas. Don't even get me started on the year long saga of B&Q and my kitchen and bathroom installation! I've already had a fair bit of compensation out of them and am working on the next batch!!!
UPDATE: I've just had my email confirmation through... yay! :T :jThe world is full of crashing bores...

Hi blackqueen
Glad you got it sorted out now
It is definitely worth the hassle to get such a cheap laptop.
You can buy much lower spec and ancient laptops on eBay for more money than £2990
