I agree about the extra battery. However think long and hard about downgrading the support to 90days. Laptops generally suffer more physical extremes than your desktop. They are often lugged about in a bag then left in the car boot, then powered up in a warm home or office.
At least one year warranty I would get and I know a chap who builds and repairs PCs for a living and even he bought a laptop with a 3 year on site warranty! That speaks volumes to me.Wealthsaving - a way of life?0 -
To believe that you are downgrading the 1 year's warranty is quite a common misconception.
All Dell branded computers come with a standard 1 year warranty
See Section 7 of Dell's Terms & Conditions
What you are downgrading is the service cover - 90 day CAR ilo 1 year (or more ) CAR
CAR stands for Collect & Return. If the product fails after the service cover ends, then there is no telephone helpline (but there is email technical support), and you may have to return the product back to Dell at your own expense.
Of course, your statutory rights are never affected by whatever T&Cs Dell may write
(although Dell also tell you this too within their T&Cs in order to stay legit.)
If you want to pay money for what is effectively an extended guarantee, that's fine. But like most extended guarantees, they tend not to be worth the money (imo)."Now to trolling as a concept. .... My Dell laptop lasted 2.5 years without any problems and then gradually had a more and more serious problem with it overheating and cutting out.
Fortunately I had a 3 year warranty and I remembered to get them to fix the thing about a week before it ran out. They not only fixed the overheating problem, but also replaced the keyboard and some slightly damaged bits of the casing - came back almost like new, having been effectively dead when they collected it.
I tend not to get extended warranties for most products, but I would certainly strongly consider it again for a laptop.0 -

Well, I ordered mine on Monday, was told to expect delivery around the 22nd. so I was very surprised that it arrived at 8am this morning....especially as my bargain £184 desktop last year took nearly two months to arrive.

I just got an extra 512mb from crucial. There is a thread about getting a free pen drive and there is a code for an extra 4% off! I also went through quidco to get an extra 7%. How did you get 7% through quidco? It's showing as 4.5% for me.
