    • Sweep & mop floor

Can't beleive that Emjay123 got a holiday cheaper to go to spain than pontins!!!! Sometimes life is illogical but fortutous! Lucky her:T

***** I set fire to the m/w yesterday! I usually buy Tesco Value butter which has a paper wrapper so I sometimes put in the m/w on low to soften it a little straight from the fridge. This time Country Life was on offer so I bought that..... it has a metallic wrapper.......there were sparks and flames and everything:eek: I stopped the m/w then remember oxygen so I kept the door closed and the flames suffogated themselves. The girls thought it was great, OH wasn't quite so impressed when I told him later on!:o Anyway, no harm done, put the butter in a bowl and tried again! lol. Have you had any minor mishaps like that?

    Good morning all.

I'm now at Mum and Dad's, had a great time with Friend A on Monday and FRiend B yesterday, DS got on well with all the children and he really enjoyed himself too. Two families with great old fashioned values of spending family time together, kids helping out and home cooked food, you know the kind of thing. I loved being cooked for!

Spent my Lakeland voucher on a gift for Mum when I was out, an electric can opener. She's generally in good health, but strength in both parents' hands not as good as it was. Didn't get anything for me! MS eh?

You might think I can't be MS this far from home, but today ds and I will walk to the 'Indian & Continental' store to get some spices and a few little bits and pieces that are hard to find at home or very expensive at supermarket prices. I have brought a pattern with me to alter as well.

I'm sitting in bed with the laptop and SAD lamp, so a nice gentle start to the day,

Hope you all have a good day.

    Morning!

(((((((((((((huge hugs))))))))))))))))) to everyone, especially those having treatment, tests or going through a bad time.

Food shopping this morning and the way I'm getting eaten out of house & home I think it'll be around the £100 mark  Got lots more baking supplies on the list though & tons of bread for toast ;) I was reading a thread about chocolate chip cookies yesterday so may try some of them later. My dd made a cake on her own yesterday morning, much to all the boys disgust, so we're going to have a 'boys cake' making session this afternoon. No doubt the Stardrops will be out after that to clean the kitchen :T

Soup & naan followed by cake for dinner this evening, not thought about lunch yet I shall wait for inspiration to strike :D Got some good books at the library yesterday so am hoping to get some reading in once I've tackled the ironing :o which seems to be breeding again! DH back from work now & running a bath so he'll be ready for bed soon. Keeping the 4 kids quiet in the day is not easy but luckily dh can sleep through anything!

N9eav Try putting a bowl of vinegar with a chopped up onion in it in the room that you're painting in. I get migraines from paint fumes and swear by this for removing them quickly.

Have a good day everyone whatever you're doing.

DS1 had some good news yesterday - he had applied for a job at one of our local radio stations and they said they want him to go in and talk to them:j I hope he gets something as this is the thing he wants to do most in the world. He has some qualifications and experience in this field so fingers crossed for him everyone please!;)

  • Morning everyone - day off today :j

I passed my exam :j :j :j So pleased, it's made all the upheaval seem worthwhile - next exam is in June so fingers crossed :D

DD has a dentist appointment today, DH is visiting FIL in hospital after work, and MIL is coming round for tea  Must clean the house today then :rotfl:

Tea tonight will be chicken casserole with dumplings - I'll bung all that in the SC in a mo, must make another loaf of bread and put some washing on.

Taplady- sending positive vibes your way

I'm going to make an "Almost Battenberg" cake today - apparently it's a lot less fiddly than the original - I'll let you know how I get on!
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)
  • Good morning all,

DH is off to work and I've spent a pleasant hour catching up on emails, survey sites and the forums here. Of course I have my trusty mug of coffee beside me.

Breakfast today was porridge. Lunch for DH is HM chicken noodle soup, sandwich, salsa rice crackers and a brownie. In his job, he walks 10 to 15 miles a day so needs a substantial lunch. Tea tonight is chicken, mushroom and leek pie made with the chicken leftovers from our roast dinner. We'll have a veg and HM wedges with it. Afters will be ??? Will figure that out later.

The flat is tidy and I just have the breakfast dishes to wash up. I'm thinking a good curl up on the sofa with a book might be good today.

Best wishes to all for a good day.

    ((((((((Gentle hugs))))))))))

Morning all……………..(((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) if you need one………….

Rant coming up, why does the flipping site time you out so quickly, drives me crazy, I just typed a long message and boom forget it, you took too long to post so do it all again ggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

It’s a very grey morning, not that we are going out, they still have not collected the cooker and I have a freecycler coming this morning to collect an item I put on our freecycle site. We also have the complex meeting this afternoon. No word from DD about getting the new one connected either, guess I will either have to do it myself or get someone in who will charge the earth!!

Will not be doing any sewing either, there is a programme I want to watch on BBC2 tonight about the Amish. They have long been a passion of mine, I admire the way they choose to live, not sure I could hack it though especially the washing!!! They do have gas fired washers, but I think they are hand powered if you see what I mean.

There is a very interesting blog I read about a family who are not Amish but have bought an old Amish farmstead and are living ‘off the grid’ it makes fascinating reading. They are also home schooling their children. There appears to be a lot of children who are home schooled in the US, it seems to be far more common than it is here.

The grey morning means I am feeling a bit’grey’ too, the daffs I bought yesterday are opening up and making a welcome splash of colour in the sitting room. I noticed when we came in yesterday that a cat has left its calling card in the tiny bit of ground where I have planted the crocus bulbs, not even made an attempt to cover it over yuk!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH was ok again yesterday, hope today is a good day too…….never can tell, he has just had his bowl of porridge, I am off to make a pot of soup, incase they come for the cooker……….
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.
  • Morning OS friends!

Greay here today though it's hard to see out of the window with the huge lump of fat cat sat in it chirruping to the birds as they fly by. I woke up with really bad cramp in my foot today so been awake a while but out of sorts!

Katholicos - I hope it all went well today, have been thinking of you.
emjay - hope you have a great holiday hon!
Penpin - hope you are feeling Ok
    moggins *hugs*
    mumof1 - congrats.pnghon!
Taplady - Good luck for your son - fingers crossed

Thought I would post my Rock Bun recipe -

    8oz self raising flour
1 1/2 tsp mixed spice (I sometimes use 1 tsp spice and 1/2 tsp cinnamon as I love cinnamon)
4 oz sugar (caster or granulated)
5 oz butter or marg (have used 4oz when short of marg)
    5 oz mixed dry fruit
2 oz mixed candied peel (I sometimes miss this out and just use 7oz of fruit)
    1 egg
    milk to bind

To top - demerara sugar pref, but any sugar works!
    • Sieve the flour and spices into a mixing bowl and rub in the fat.
    • Add the sugar, fruit, peel and an egg. Mix well and add just enough milk to make a sticky consistancy. The milk isn't an exact science as you can tell!
    • Grease two baking trays
    • Place large spoonfuls (or a 'blob':p ) onto the baking trays, leaving room for them to spread. I usually get about 12-14 out of this, including leaving some raw mixture in the bowl for me to eat!
    • Sprinkle the tops with a little sugar.
    • Bake in the centre of a hot oven - 220 degrees C (which I think is Gas mark 7) for 10 - 12 mins.
    • Leave to cool for 5 mins on the tray before lifting to a wire rack to cool completely.
This version of rock buns isn't as 'knobbly' as some I have seen, as they do spread a little, but they do taste really good! They are delicious eaten fresh but can be frozen if needed.

Hope everyone has a good day - warm gentle hugs hug.gif to all who need them.

Why don't you try typing your post out in word and then cutting and pasting it or cutting and pasting your reply in the reply box and then if you are logged out just cut and paste it into the little reply box at the bottom of the thread? It should take 15 minutes to time out though.

Flying visit as I'm meeting a friend for coffee in half an hour.
I managed to sleep ok on my own last night and just had a very lazy evening in front of the TV.

After our coffee my friend and I will traipse round a few charity shops hunting for bargains then i'll come home and try to get a bit more baking down.

Good luck to Katholicos!!! and congratulations to SOMO1!!!

    Bye for now. xxxx

    Morning all!

Grey and gloomy here today! Never mind at least it's dry - planning to send all the kids out on a long long dog walk lol!

Yesterday was good, I got ds's school shoes reduced from £50 to £20, a nice necklace for dd1's birthday for £1 (she'd seen the same one in a local shop for £28!!!!) and a top and trousers for my friend's baby - heavily reduced in Monsoon, they are sooooo tiny!

Taught my friend how to make chicken pie, she was surprised how easy it was! Her kids were most impressed by it too! Bless her, she's brought a notebook with her to jot things down in! Also showed her how to make choc and orange muffins - I thought everyone could make cakes, but apparently not, she was surprised how easy they were as well - and now has plans to buy a moski!

OS today will be a spot of swishing and swiping, hoovering and cooking. Lunch will be hm burgers in hm rolls with hm wedges and hm baked beans! Dinner will be chicken new yorker with mash and carrots and broccoli, not sure about pud yet, might get the kids to make something.

Also need to make turkish delight today, my friend's son has to do it as a holiday project - bit of a funny one I thought! Anyway my ds has some kind of photography journal to complete, so he's going to do a photo strip/cartoon thing of us all making it!

Hope everyone has a good day, hugs where needed xx
