Well, had a really good trip to the Indian and Continental, very satisfied with purchases. Got pinto beans x 2, couscous, channa dal X 2, sachet of turmeric, sachet of curry leaves (not sure what I will use these for, but I know I never have them for Indian style recipes. Best of all, 400g bag of little icecube size chunks of frozen crushed ginger. I think this will be very useful.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Afternoon all,
Slept late....psychological as DGS2 isn't here needing to be brought to school...changed bedlinen, which is now on line (of course I washed it first!), two ancient but warm Aran cardigans are drying on landing, haven't been washed for several years I don't think! 2 loads from yesterday dry and put away...rarely buy clothes that need ironing. Filled recycling bin although not due for collection until next Wednesday. There is another wash in the machine, dw has been emptied and lamb shoulder is in oven at very low heat for dinner to-night....have pork chops for DD3 to put in later, she won't eat lamb and it means that we might get a curry out of the lamb for to-morrow...only 1kg weight including bone.
Bought Jocasta Innes Pauper's cookbook off Amazon the other day, it arrived this morning so spent some time reading the beginning of that...haven't got to the recipes yet, might manage that when I have remade bed and got rid of latest machine wash...
Going to watch tennis and knit later on, my knitting speed seems to have slowed down quite a bit as I can't knit for hours on the trot like I could when I was young.
Hugs to all friends who are MIA at present, please come back, I miss you all.
Hugs also to those who need or want one to cheer up their day a bit

Hi all,
Had a cheeky morning off w*rk today. OH took me to see a house he saw last week to get my thoughts and i loved it. it seems to tick all the boxes for us. A 'move in' condition with loads of potential and plenty space. Taking some advice today and we may put in a note of interest! Scary times but very exciting too!
So went to Ikea this morn and it was dead. Perfect. Then spun by B&Q to have a look there. This house would only need some new units in kitchen and new bathroom suite perhaps.
OS today, managed to get washing done and have lovely beans on toast with smoked sausage.Yum.
OH back to Aberdeen tonight as he is offshore again for 2 weeks from tomorrow.
Meeting up with friends tonight to see Confessions of a Shopaholic. I have read the books and often thought the main character was a bit like me until I discovered OS & MSE!:rotfl:
Hope everyone is well today, Hugs to those in need.Spreading the gospel that is Martin Lewis to the future generation....I'm a Home Economics Teacher and being thrifty is the way!:A0 -
Afternoon all :hello:
I haven't been on for a few days, so I need to catch up on what is happening!
Dave's Aussie cousin and OH were here at the weekend, we had a wonderful time! They were pretty much perfect strangers, last time Dave saw his cousin they were both in primary school, before his cousin emigrated! They hadn't really kept in touch, although the family grapevine always kept everyone in touch with what everyone else was up to. Anyway, it was great, everyone bonded instantly and it's funny, Dave and his cousin are alike in so many ways. In terms of looks that's not much of a surprise, but they are very similar in terms of personality too.
We took them to Stratford-on-Avon for the day, and I went into Lakeland. I was very well behaved. Apart from, I am now the proud owner of one of those Zyliss electric potato peelers
In my defense though, Dave bought it, not me, because he's sick of having to peel them for me. Talk about confessions of an old-styler - I simply can't peel potatoes - it's odd, I just don't have the co-ordination or something. I can peel carrots etc but not spuds. I can move the peeler along the potato, and I can apply pressure to the peeler, but just not at the same time :rotfl: And it was a bargain, reduced to £1.50 because the cover doesn't stay on properly. The cheapest online (and in Lakeland) are about a fiver.
Other than that I didn't buy a thing :A although my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and I did take the opportunity to drop a few hints of the unsubtle kind Dave might actually pick up on
Dave is going to visit the Evil In-laws this weekend so I've got hold of some lamb shanks for a treat before he goes. I've jost popped the white beans in to soak to go with them.
Hope everyone is well, I'll catch up properly when I get the chance. :grouphug: Hugs to those who need or want one xxx0 -
Hi everyone, a bit later today.
Actually slept later, maybe it was the biking that did it. Then shower, and hair washed/dried, washer on and hung out before going to see the consultant with DH for his blood test checkup for Choloestrol (sp). It came back fine, but he must stay on the tablets now. Referred him to ENT as he still has mild symptoms of the vertigo he had last year now and again, have an appointment for 4th March, yes we pay for this service, but cheaper than we would pay at home.
Called round at Iceland (yes one has opened out here) we wanted some (brown) malt vinegar, and someone said it was cheaper than other places out here. Boy unbelieveable range, but expensive when compared to the UK. No wonder locals call it dear out here, if they shop there instead of preparing themselves, a frozen chicken was over 7€, you can get a cooked one all herby for that. Think they need to join the OS route.
Back and had lunch Gambas (prawns) with some seeded bread and butter, does peeling the prawns and slicing the buttering the bread class as OS?:rotfl: :rotfl: Tea tonight is the Beef Bourg. we didnt have yesterday. Washing dried and in.
Jayward - piccys off camera into pc, will try loading them tonight. Take it easy. :grouphug: to all in need.
Take care

The fudge I made yesterday has turned out "interesting"- not really soft as in syrup but not really firm either- have cut into odd looking cubes and left on a baking tray hoping for a miracle. Tastes allright though!
Still have half of the huge quiche I made yesterday so will have that for tea with saute potatoes.
DH has just taken me to Lidl to get toilet rolls, long life milk and any good value staples. The red lentils are back and now cost 95 pence for a 500g bag!!! They are cheaper in Sainsburys.
For what I spent I used to be able to fill the trolley to the brim with stuff almost overflowing- today it was only three quarters full! Felt a little superstitious when I saw the total was £66.60!
Put the chicken thighs I bought in the slow cooker after skinning them and will use them to make a curry or filled tortillas or something like that tomorrow.
Hugs to everyone having a tough time especially moggins, wannabesybil, smokybabe, moneysavingdiva, pennypincher etc.

When you read the Paupers cookbook I recommend the potato and bacon hotpot, it's lovely. I also liked the boozy prunes" as it is so simple and tastes as if it took ages."This site is addictive!"
