Hi all,
Over lunch today I scared the bejesus out of my DH by saying I wanted to try for a baby (he's been nagging me for a little while to be fair, but I think the shock of me saying I actually wanted one left him a little speechless). To be honest I have absolutely no idea where to start, should I be taking supplements, should I go and see my doctor and get a check-up?? I spend quite a bit of time on these forums and knowing how friendly most people are on other areas I was hoping some people here could give me a few pointers at to where to start?? Apart from the obvious
Best place to start is probably the trying to concieve thread
Yes you really nedd to start taking things like folic acid 3 months before you really start trying to concieveWell that is what the recommended time seems to be - however all it will do is reduce risks of certain problems but if you're planning then why not giev yourself the best possible chance of avoiding problems
A health check is a great idea I think - and spend a lot of time speaking to your OH... we both wanted kids, we both agreed to wait till after our wedding - and though we thought we were ready... falling pregnant first month we tried caught us just a tad off guard!!!
And tough though it may be... try not to become obsessed with trying to get pregnant... you'll just put yourself under a lot of pressure if it doesn't happen straight away! And if you're on the pill etc then try and have a couple of months without to allow your body to get rid of the extra hormones etc before you try to get pregnant - use condomsDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! I bought more baby things
Have ordered a moses basket and a few essential bits - breast pads, toiletries and things. Scary! 32 weeks tomorrow (OH was born at 34 weeks!) so need to get organised. First Ante-natel class next weeked, and might get the Pram and Carseat sorted too.
Still a bit poorly, as is OH, so not doing much apart from sleeping. Am keeping my eye on you ladies thoughStay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

Well we're home - latest news from SIL is that she's still pregnant but bleeding - so she's been sent to bed for rest and going for another scan on tuesday or thursday to see if it's still hanging in there...
On the upside Auntie and Uncle (that's us) have been out shopping for OHs niece... think we have 2 pairs of trousers, several t-shirts and tops, 1 jumper, 1 fleece jacket and one thick knictted jumper with a hoodie on and a pair of winter boots. There should be some undies on their way in an order I placed as well as anything else I might pick up this week before I ship it up... At least I know she'll have some clothes and we haven't spent a fortune eitherI don't see the point in spending loads at the rate she's likely to grow out of them... Am I a bad auntie?

Talking of baby clothes, I bought some lovely JojoMamaBebe stipey things today! Think I've got three nice outfits for new baby, and three for 0-3. Think that is enough 'posh' bits, and I can just make the rest (how many?!) up with cheaper bits? I tend to do a load of washing a day, so no problem there.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

FG, we've got 9 babygros and 2 of the little baby nighties (can't remember what they're called) All in neutral... I figure that's enough to get us through the first couple of days then I can send hubby down to Asda / Mothercare to pick up some outfits in the appropriate colour...
Caz, really glad she's settled down for you! (Can understand why people get the blues in the first couple of days huh!)
My bedroom is papered!!! FIL came down today and showed hubby how to do it and now it's all papered, 3 walls to paint and a carpet to order... But I feel like we're making headway... I can see a faint light at the end of the chaos tunnel...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Chippy time!!
So hungry, just realised I've not eaten since breakfast, oops.
Also, I now appear to have a baby that does not stop moving. He squirms, wriggles, vibrates (?!), punches, pokes and stretches constantly. Feels like I've got that thing in my belly, you know that movie where it pops out? Alien or something.
Well done on bedroom Krystal. Want to come and paint mine?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Hurrah, now wide awake and making headway on the packing.. Just a quick stop here as I've been renewing my car tax online - otherwise I won't be able to move it off the drive when I get back!
Feelie, well done on the shoppingHow's your FIL doing now?

FIL isn't wellHe had a turn the other day, and it looks like he'll be in for quite a while now, which is really sad. Feel a bit helpless being down here, but we've offered to do any Tesco shopping for MIL if she needs anything (she doesn't drive and FIL used to help with the carrying).
Did you have cake?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
FG, I would love to paint yours but still got to paint mine yet
Sorry to hear about your FIL, hope he starts to make progress soon!
I had lovely cream cake for pudding that step MIL bought down... Would be having more now but got stoopid GTT so can't eat now until I've had it done... It's gonna kill me in the morning, I keep waking up starving and have to eat my weetabix minis as soon as I get downstairs... Might take leftover cake to the hospital to have when the test is finished... I'm sure that would horrify them all!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls...
