jumping on to this thread! hi!
Im moving house too but Im a second time buyer
had the offer accepted mid january, got an appointment with nationwide the next day and applied for mortgage and paid valuation fee etc etc. then within a week the survey was done and back with the solicitors and we got our mortgage offer in the post about 3 days later so all pretty quick. THEN (!) our solicitor wanted something else from nationwide in realtion to the offer (a letterheaded letter or something equally odd) which nationwide said was unneccessary. that took nearly 2 weeks to sort but all ok now and our final report from the solicitor is apparently in the post and we are ready to exchange woop - took 4-5 weeks in total. BUT now our solicitor wants a huge amount of proof as to where our money comes from for deposit/fees etc. its all come from e-savings and been moved into the current account - but htey wouldnt accept a printout of the statement as it didnt have our account number and we ended up having to spend ages with the bank to get statements printed and checked and signed etc. drives me mad.
then the people who are buying ours are FTB and I keep in good contact with them. their valuation was done and back within a week too which was great but then the bank wanted more proof of income and where their savings came from - they still havent had their mortgage offer back but have been told it will be in the next few days and then they should be ready to exchange too.
Neither of us used a broker - just direct with our lenders.
So our experience has been that things started moving quickly but then get caught up in a lot of paperwork and proving who you are/what you earn/where your savings came from.
I hope you all get your offers soon, and house moving is down as one of the top most stressful things you'll ever do in life.0 -
HSBC have been really quick in everything and very helpful considering i had a default from last year, they just asked me to pay it and send proof plus i'm a FTB taking a 90%LTV.
I would certainly recommend HSBC.
Well they are certainly taking a different stance to virtually all other lenders.
Fair play to them for looking for reasons to lend, rather than not to.I am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Well guys and girls...im absolutely fuming!!!
Spoke to the Broker again to clarify that Abbey had recieved the 3rd lot of accounts that he told me he posted on Monday and now he says that they werent full accounts and that Abbey have asked for them again. When i pointed out that fact that the previous time (2 weeks ago) they were declined was because they werent 3 yrs account and that he had definatley told me on Monday that full acounts had now been sent he denied it and said he couldnt talk because he was with another client. Trying to get hold of the accountant to find out exactly whats happening and where things have gone so wrong! Its been 6 weeks now since we started the application and im not sure what to do next. Broker has asked us to give him until Monday re mortgage offer but im not sure he's going to have any answers by then.

Sounds rubbish Sarah

I'd have kicked a** by now, I can't stand waiting at all, let alone 6 weeks! Is it because you're self-employed do you think? I know verifying income can sometimes be a problem for SE people.
Halifax haven't even asked for proof of our income yet, I was told the computer wasn't asking for it when he went through the application, (not sure if it usually does!) but we can take it into our local branch if it becomes needed in future. I'd have thought that would be the first thing they would check!:eek:0 -
Im employed but OH is self employed. Broker has been dealing directly with accountant so we arent 100% sure whats happening with these accounts. It was OHs accountant that reccommended the mortgage broker. Hopefully will get some answers this afternoon from the accountant! Tempted to start again without this broker...im not sure which thought is worse...starting again from scratch or continuing with the Abbey and the mortgage broker we have lol0

Sarah,
If your valuation has not been done, then it will be refunded to you, if you decide not to go ahead, or if the application is declined.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Woohoo! Got full mortgage offer in the post this morning, can't believe how fast it was! I guess the fact we were existing Halifax mortgage customers helped.
I hope everyone else in this thread is not waiting too long.:cool:0 -

Our broker rang yesterday to say that documents should be going to underwriters on Monday so we should have an idea by Wednesday.0
