Hi,
I would ask my IFA this but she's on holiday this week!
Am in the process of buying 1st house. I now have a mortgage ref no. from Abbey and I'm waiting for the homebuyers survey. I can't ring them apparently- has to be done through broker. Sooooo if I have a ref no. does that mean they have 'oked' us to lend to? Obviously the survey will have to be ok too but are WE oked as borrowers at this stage?!
Also any ideas how long we will have to wait for our survey (got mortgage ref no on Thurs) or does it vary wildly from region to region?
Thanks!

You've passed the preliminary stage, but there are a number of issues the lender may want to address that may affect their decision to lend, in addition to the results of the survey (i.e. they may want proof of income from your employer, etc., etc.,).
Don't assume anything; even if a formal "Offer" has been made, they can withdraw it at any time. Is there no-one at your IFA's office that can clarify things for you in her absence?I am a Mortgage Adviser

Does Abbey have a tracking page? We are getting our mortgage through Nationwide and they have a tracking page where you can sign in with your reference number to see what stage it's at.It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

oh dear- can't relax yet then?! I can mail her but she's on hol so don't really want to- I can wait a week but may bite my fingernails! Do you have any ideas of how long people wait for a hB survey or is that question way too general to answer?0

The people who are buying our house applied for their mortgage last Tuesday and the surveyer came yesterday it is pretty quick at the moment with them not having much work on. Not sure which bank it is though.0

I had an offer accepted on a house at the beginning of January. Went through a mortgage broker who applied for an Abbey mortgage for us. Got the mortgage offer in principle. Now nearly 6 weeks later and the valuation still hasnt been done, we have also had to send OH's accounts 3 times! V. frustrating because im not sure where things have gone wrong...accoutant/broker or Abbey (broker says Abbey keep changing goal posts). I also tried ringing Abbey to find out where we were up to in the mortgage application process but they couldnt give me any info as i has applied through a broker. Fingers crossed we will hear next week?!!0

Hi All,
I am also going throw a similar issue.
I am waiting for the valuation to be booked and then to be made an offer (if i am made one) but my mortgage broker has advised me that I will not hear anything back regarding my offer until the end of next week.
I am not the most patient person so this is killing me.
One quick question, did anyone have to pay their valuation fee upfront first before knowing if they have fully been accepted for the mortgage?
Thanks in advance.0 -

They actually did our survey before they even got the cheque for it, but they knew it was coming via the broker along with the arrangement fee. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
oh- looks like some of you have been waiting a lot longer than me. Is this normal- anyone know? Has Abbey got a reputation for being slow? Hope not!0

No, they are usually pretty good.
I'm impressed that your adviser can afford to take a holiday.....
I wish I could

Hi Wkitten- are you talking about Abbey- or just in general?0
