    Hi
I've just signed up to do DsE141 Discovering Psychology. I think it is new this year. Is anyone else going to do this? I am hoping to eventually do a degree in Childhood and Youth studies. I was going to start in May and do DD131 Intro to social sciences but I did that in my Uni degree some years ago and fancied getting stuck in with something different and now as I'm so excited.

Has anyone got any pdfs for Understanding autism (SK124), any Law courses (W100/200/201/300/301) or any Religious Studies courses (Ad317/A217/AA307) that they would be willing to e-mail to me to have a look at before I sign up. If you have please PM me.

Thanks for the support :o I think us mums are strong and can manage most things that are thrown our way.

I did my law degree years ago and didn't do great; it was at one of the top unis. I find the OU law courses much more challenging but also interesting. I started with W100 and there was a lot to take in but I highly recommend it as it gives you a really good base.

I couldn't imagine doing 2 courses at once. I did contemplate it for my last two level 3 courses but I barely cope with one and my youngest is only two. I recognised my limitations before I took on the impossible!

You should all feel really proud of yourselves for starting any course :T

    I am doing DSE141 too.
  • I'm just about to start SDK228. It looks interesting, i recieved the book about a month ago but all the study guides, planner etc are only available on-line. Very money saving for the OU, but i hate reading large bits of text on the computer so I'm going to have to print it all off! I'm not too pleased about it, i wanted to get ahead as I've got a holiday coming up but didn't know where to start until my course web site opened this morning.
I have a feeling that a lot of OU courses will become like this. it was uch a disappointment to only recieve the book and not the usual box full of stuff to sort out.
Oh well, moan over, better get stuck into it.
Good luck everyone with their new courses x

With me, I started at a brick and mortar uni. I decided after a few months that full-time study (I'm disabled) was too much for me. I also like the idea of the open degree - many degrees I've looked at, have involved modules that I have no interest in.

Career-wise - again, it's partly down to disability. I can't do many careers due to the mixture of disabilities I have. I found that IT / computing was a fairly easy career to make reasonable adjustments with.

THANKS for responding and being so honest. :T I know the feeling. I am partially sighted and I was told 8 1/2 years ago that I had 5 years left and my sight would be gone totally. I have other illnesses which doesn't help matters either that's why I wondered how people decided what to do.
  • Hi Jo
After staating OU then stopping due to ill health and changing my mind a couple of times I decided to go for the Open degree. It's much more flexible and I'm able to choose courses that interest me and avoid exams!
