Someone (I believe it was an OU facebook group) once gave me a link which gives a taster of courses. But I can't remember the link. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

    Openlearn has these: http://www.open.edu/openlearn/

    Hi all

I cancelled my enrolment for last October due to changes at work and enrolled on the Q54 Leadership/Management course for April 2014 (finally decided that was the one I wanted to do!)

I start with B120 in April and received my brown OU parcel last week. I was so excited opening it, had a quick flick through all the books, saw lots of big words and thought 'what the heck am I doing? - I am too stupid for this!' :rotfl:

I'm working my way through book one just to get back into the flow of reading, concentrating on the words rather than skimming and note taking (it's been a long time since college!) but I tend to drift off about 20-30 minutes watching tv which isn't good.

Have you got any study tips? (apart from just do it!) - what works for you?

I'm probably not the best person to ask (given I have no discipline!) but, what I do is print off the assignments first (if they are available) then work out which book goes with which TMA, then put all the other books away so they don't scare me. :) I also skim read stuff to find the relevant parts too, then go back and reread things when I need to.

Caffeine and stress tend to drive me to be honest :o

I have two TMAs due in the next four days and another one due next week.

Maybe your being a bit harsh on yourself, dd who is an A level student, tells me she is taught not to study/read for more than 30 minutes at a time, she gets excellent grades, so maybe just go with what works for you, best of luck :)

I was taught the same thing. Well, it was more take a break every 30 minutes - 1 hour. Even if it's just getting a drink or some food.

I did B120 a few yrs ago it was a good course, the best bit was each subject is based to one book.

I agree with short bursts otherwise your brain fries, if you can prit yout TMA off but in the booklet where the TMA are it does describe the areas of the book that your find the info from.

I think the best bet is skim read at first, then go back in for more indepth detail, highlighter pens are a must - even if its a word, a section then you can go back to it.

    Your do brilliantly xx
