  • Thanks :) This feb starting point is the last time you can sit DD101 its being replaced with something else but I have no idea what, as I like to waffle on this may be good for me ;)

My NUS extra card arrived today, talk about embracing the student life haha, it looks so strange in my purse. Another brown box arrived yesterday with loads more books etc I'm just too excited :D

The problem I have is that having done journalism and been taught not to waffle, stick to the facts, and don't use vague descriptions like 'local'. The TMA was asking me to do the opposite. I also got fed up watching the DVD for quotes when I didn't find it even remotely interesting.

Not sure if it's still there, but the OU used to put transcripts of all their recorded talks for my subjects on the course website, not sure if they do the same for DVDs. I used to listen once to catch any nuances in conversation then used th transcripts for my TMAs, much easier!!

Thanks, I cant wait! I'm doing it purely for personal gratification, I'm intending to do a masters then a doctorate if all goes well. Its my first time dealing with the OU and they are so lovely and helpful, they call me and email me to make sure I have everything I need and I havn't even started yet:), I'm really looking forward to the face to face tutorials as well, any tips on the course would be much appreciated, there doesnt seem to be many people doing PPE :)

My biggest tip would be learn how to Harvard reference, there are score great resources online! And keep your references, nothing worse than trying to find them all at the end! Also, if you can get yourself ahead a week with the reading, it helps when 'real life' gets in the way.

There are usually Facebook groups for each course, everyone's doing something different with it, but it always found it nice to see other people stressing about the same things I was-made me feel less out of my depth!!

    Good luck!!

    Hiya all
I'm tearing my (sparse- stress related alopecia!) hair out already at AA100 and it's not even started yet! I keep trying to sit down and concentrate but stuff keeps getting in the way :( the first TMA is in two parts with two totally different pieces of literature and I think that's throwing me totally :(

I Wish I had some advice for you, hopefully an experienced student will come along and help, but just wanted to say hope all goes well for you and good luck :)

I think the most important thing is just to get started and then you find your momentum. Plan to have a couple of peaceful hours somewhere with books, pens, notepads and no mobile!!

Once you start you'll feel much better.

    Hi

I'm doing the same course, I haven't really looked at anything yet.....but intend to begin with the study companion some time this week.

It's all a little bit daunting. And I think I'll struggle a bit with the writing style, I have an engineering background which relies on writing being factual and succinct. Hey ho.

There is a facebook page if you haven't already joined - it could provide some support.

I imagine there'll be plenty of us in the same boat.

Someone (I believe it was an OU facebook group) once gave me a link which gives a taster of courses. But I can't remember the link. Can someone point me in the right direction please?
