I'm doing an Open Degree, just completed SDK228 and I flipping loved it! Gutted it's over, as crazy as that sounds, haha! Having now completed my credits at level 1 and 2, I wondered if (on the basis of having enjoyed SDK228 so much and looking to continue with Psychology) anyone would recommend any level 3 courses? The student reviews on OU site for the level 3 psychology centric courses are fairly damming :-/

    Hi all :)

I've just completed B203 - grade 3 pass...not impressed! I naffed up the exam big time, so to come out with some kind of pass is a good thing. Just enrolled for B190, starting in a couple of days, and then off to decide my next course starting in october.

120 credits down, 240 to go!

Hi All, Has anyone recently done a Modern Languages degree with the OU? I'm considering doing either a BA(Hons) Humanities with French or BA(Hons) French and Spanish, but was wondering what the general opinion was of the value for money of the OUs language teaching.I'm too far from any of the tutorial groups in the UK so all my learning will have to be virtual.
My local university does do evening part time language classes which are cheaper, but there is no qualification at the end and my experience of evening language classes tends to centre around people talking about their next holiday rather than totally immersing themselves in a language.

Are there any other options, other unis that do distance language degrees in French ?

    Thanks,
    Neil.

I've just applied to do L140 En Rumbo Intermediate Spanish, which I was hoping to add to my previous L193 Portales Spanish and get the Certificate of Languages but that qualification is finishing in Oct 2013 and I wont be able to complete in time and MU123 Discovering Mathematics.

Both to go towards an Open Degree with the credit also being added from L193 - Applied for student finace and everything!!

    I am sooo excited!!
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:

So inspiring to see so many of you enjoying OU courses :D

I have requested to study an Open Degree so I could select specific business management modules that would be more relevant to me for the future.

I have chosen at Level 1
(B120) An introduction to business studies - to start Oct 2013
(BXS121) Managing in the workplace - to start Apr 2014

I have never done anything like this before. I work full time, have family and a dog to look after so really excited, worried and nervous about what I have let myself in for and how am I going to fit studying in between shopping, washing and cleaning lol!

I am waiting for email confirmation so I can apply for a tuition fee loan. Fingers crossed for me!

Welcome to the thread :) :j

I am trying to write my two EMA's at the moment, so am working like a crazy thing to get them both in before the end of the month...

OH has booked a holiday *again* at the end of August (he did this to me last year - when my SEH806 EMA was due!)

Trying to work out what to study next year - at the moment it's a call between Law or Management - I would love to study Law, but Management would be more useful to me career wise (but I'm very worried I'm not the right personality for it though - I'm quite shy in RL)...

    decisions... :D

    Morning all ;)

I have changed my mind and opted for the BA Hons in Leadership and Management as my choices to study would have been virtually the same anyway. I felt a right wally phoning to change my qualification so soon after choosing it :o I am hoping there won't be a charge for this ??

I have applied for a tuition fee loan too - how long does this process take?

Yep... definitely very addictive. All of my prior quals are from brick unis, but this is much more fun. I don't know if it is because I am a little bit older now so am enjoying studying for fun without the pressure (although my target qualification at the moment is very useful to me professionally, but definitely not essential). I think a definite element of it for me is the working on my own at my own pace with support there when I need it rather than being one of the crowd, which is how I felt as an undergrad. It just feels more responsive and personal to me than my studies did before (either that or I should have just studied social science in the first place :rotfl::rotfl:)

(I do actually work for the OU now (as of fairly recently) but this is me talking with my student hat on now I promise - I was a student before I started there! It is quite odd being on both sides of the desk at once - luckily in vastly different departments! :o )

Good luck for the MA :)

Probably Law for me next year. I may even click through and commit once I've finished this bottle of wine...

OH is away, I am happily buried in my EMA (and wine). Makes it easier somehow :o *happy times*
