from the way i have worded my post, it is most definitely the case

if you dont have recent GCSE / level 2 maths and english, then you wont get a foot in the door to teacher training

on an access course you will study maths and english to at least level 2, if not GCSE, so this could be another reason why your friends outdated qualifications werent a hindrance

    F

It most certainly isn't the case!

The GCSEs do not have to be recent at all!

Recent study could be A levels in other subjects and it would still be ok.

    candyapple - U214 - 1/2 an English degree at a brick uni - B39 English Lang & Lit degree

Well after a lot of umming and ahhing (or however that's spelled!) I will be joining you all :D

I posted around this time last year that I was wanting to transfer credit and finish my degree with the OU but didn't get around to it - I've just had confirmation that my credit transfer has been accepted so I am ready to go :)

I'll be doing B39 English Language and Literature degree, starting with U214 Worlds of English. I did want to do U211 Exploring the English Language but the horrendous reviews plus the thought of the exam has put me off, U214 is a new module though so I have no idea what I'll be letting myself in for. The module doesn't start until Feb 2012 so I have some breathing space and plenty of reading time before I start.

    :D :j

candyapple - How long did it take for them to contact you and confirm the transfer after you'd sent the paperwork?
No longer using this account for new posts from 2013

Around 2 months for everything to be confirmed, I'm guessing it took a little longer than normal due to it being their busy time. I thought I had left loads of time as well, so its really just as well that the module I want to do doesn't start until Feb as I'd be too late to apply for financial help etc

Currently studying Introduction to Psychology. Past studies are Starting with Psychology; Introduction to Social Sciences; and Introduction to Counselling. Assuming I can log into the registration bit of the site (which seems to be down!) I'll be starting my first level 2 course, Exploring Psychology, in November. I've had my place reserved for months, but have been ummming and ahhhhing about the cost (turned down for financial support this time around due to OH's £500 p.a. payrise) but I've decided to just go for it and I'll find a way to pay for it, as I doubt I'll go back to studying if I take a break now and start spending my money on something else! :rotfl:

Goal is to achieve BSc(hons) Psychology, and then to either go straight on to do an MSc in Psychological Research or to do a BA(hons) Humanities or Open Degree for my own fun and to combine some art, literature and music courses.
    Original debts: £14,250
Still to pay: £250 /£950 - Lloyds TSB overdraft (although with interest and charges, I've already paid £1,675!)

    VSP#150 - £68.25

Mine was received 5th August and just got my original transcript back yesterday, but not the module details, so they haven't even started to process the named degree part yet.

Luckily I can go ahead and start a module without worrying.
  • hi i have been looking into starting courses with ou but am unsure which i should do or how many. i am a single parent to 4 kids, i am a carer for my eldest who is registered disabled. i do not work at present but want to get back into work when my youngest starts school next year so thought i would take the oppertunity to start studying. i am interested in bookkeeping/accountance. just wondered if i should just start with the basic intro to bookkeeping/accounting on its own or do a few course at the same time. i am 43 and nearly brain dead due to age:D. also will i get funding as i am unsure, can't really afford to pay out the prices. any help is much appreciated

Hi, I just wanted to pop my head in as a current OU student.

I am doing DSE141 - Discovering Psychology at the moment, and onto DSE212 - Exploring Psychology next month. I have already done Human Genetics, Human Nutrition, Intro to Counselling and Understanding the Autism Spectrum, all short courses to get me in the swing of it and have finally got my momentum up.

I'm aiming for Social Sciences with Psychology OR an Open Degree, depending upon inspiration along the way.

Shrekkiegirl - I am also a non-working carer for my disabled son and I believe you can get one short course paid if you are on IS (I did the Genetics one) then you get funding if courses are towards a qualification. To make sure ring the OU and they will take you through what you are likely to be awarded, and they have guidance people to advise you on your best course of action too.

ETA Just investigated the colours thing....what a dunce :rotfl:
