Quite a long time before you need to start worrying then
  • If I had a Pace and they turned up to replace it with a Thomson then I'd refuse. Give me a "might have a problem one day" Pace over a refurb Thomson model anyday.

Luckily after five failed Thomson's I now have a brand new Amstrad that seems to be working very well. Asked for a Pace but the installer didn't have any on his van.
  • how can i find out if I have one of those models without pressing the Services button? the reason being is mine is knackered too but I knew a Sky man and he got me another (but not HD)
The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

Is the most annoying thing ever

I would hang fire before you exchange your box, somethings dont sound right.

The boxes might have a problem but its not serious so they say , it would be cheaper to replace the boxes as and when they go faulty , the Thomson HD boxes apparently have dodgy PSU's but Sky didnt recall those.

First step would be to look on the back of the box (where the cables plug in) and see if you can see the manufacturer. HD boxes are made by either Thomson, Pace, Amstrad or Samsung.

Only Pace HD boxes are affected by this product recall. I'm a bit unsure from your post if you have HD or if you had HD and the box is not in use anymore. There are two services buttons that you can use. One on the box and one on the remote.

    Regards,

    Duncan
  • My Sky HD box is one of the ones affected, replaced today by.....
a refurbed Thomson box! Great just what I needed to fix my reliability problems. Customer relations in Scotland are the people to ask for, you seem to get some sort of response there which sadly cannot be said for other Sky departments. This will be my third HD box since October 08 and my fifth box in two and a half years after two previous Sky+ box failures. The contracted installers fitted a refurbed box even when the Sky office had authorised a new one so beware. It has also taken four appointments in just over a week to get to this stage and its still not sorted. In my personal opinion it is just not worth the hassle and it will never change, it looks only to get worse as more folks jump on the HD bandwagon that is now being heavily pushed. Trying to get out of my contract but I am held till October. When that day comes I will be glad that Sky is out of my life. No more...
  • HI i'm new here this is my 1st post so please be patient with me.

No. If your Thomson is working well then thats great. Only the Pace boxes are affected by the recall. Some people are lucky and get a good box straight away.

  • How to check if your box is a bad egg.

Ermm - says SKY on the front!

No SKY+ HD boxes have a reputation for reliability. They must have done something REALLY bad to warrant a recall - must be a first:EasterBun
  • I had the phonecall tonight, my box is one thats affected. Im getting £10 reduction a month for 3 months for the inconvenience and 12 months warranty again
HOWEVER..... this is to compensate for all my recordings that Ill now lose...so bare this in mind when booking your changeover.

Unless you have a dvd recorder.
