    AOL
    BT
    yes
    unclear
    yes......

we're waiting on the OP to try a direct link with a modem rather than a router just to confirm poor speed is on thge line, not on his kit :)

Thanks for the info, so if you tried the master bt socket which is inside BT socket. Then there are three possible area of a problem.

Have you tried a different filter plugged into the BT socket inside the faceplate ?

Have you tried a different computer on a cable plugged into the router ?

You say your going to try a modem so that will cover trying a different router but I would also try a computer ?

Btw is your wiring coming into the house etc.. underground or coming from a poll ?

Have you asked your neighbours to see what sort of speed they are getting ?

    cheers

not sure how to check that !

Normally you can connect to the router using a web browser to http://192.168.0.1 (may be http://192.168.1.1 instead) then login with user admin and no password or you may have set one previously.
There should then be some kind of adsl connection status option which should tell you the current connection speeds to your provider.
ADSL is asymmetric (the A of Aymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) in favour of downloads rather than uploads, so it seems very irregular that yours seems to be favouring the uploads.
If those settings show you should be getting greater speeds, then you may wish to start restricting access - most ADSL Routers allow you to limit who has access to your network via the router.
If you have the model number, I am sure we dlink have the user manual available online so i could give more specific advice.

If I understand you right you've got ADSL modem and a router. You've tried to connect via ethernet cable to router. Did you connect to the modem directly (bypassing the router) via ethernet cable? You need to eliminate as much of your own kit as possible.
Are you saying your neighbour connected to your modem/router? If so, what speeds does he get in his own house?
Once you eliminate everything at your end I'd be inclined to give AOL a good kicking before jumping ship. You could have the same problem with a new ISP. I'm afraid everyone has tales of woe about every ISP. :(

Not true, I have never had a single problem with mine in over 2 years, you do get what you pay for like any other service based purchase.

    I would dump AOL ... A.S.A.P.

I'd ring AOL and tell them to sort it out and ask for a refund on the amount of time you have had the service you've been paying for.

O2 seem to offer the best BB at the cheapest price a month if you're an O2 customer. They aparently have real good CS, which I can attest to as one of their mobile customers.

i tried to the modem but the thing is not working ahhhhhh

There's always going to be good and bad reports about particular ISP's.

My work colleague uses BT and he's had only one problem. He says he had good interaction with their customer services when he needed it.

I've been with virgin because I get tv and phone as well but if I just wanted BB I'd go O2.

If I can get my TV aerial sorted or get freesat within 4 months I'll be leaving for O2.
