Normally the upload speed is much slower than the download speed, just to be sure (again making sure theres decent security on the other computer) connect another computer directly to the internet to rule out it being your computer (I'm pretty sure it isn't but its all ammo when you ring AOL on the moro).

Ring AOL with all your evidence if they don't sort it (which the should do) and you're not in contract with them leave. Because its them thats at fault.

Certainly looking like an AOL problem. But as asininity says ~ try ANOTHER computer first

When you view your modem settings, what does your modem say it connects at?
    For example mine shows:
DownStream Connection Speed 4000 kbps UpStream Connection Speed 400 kbpsThere are 8 bits in a byte, so that means i should be able to get 4000kbits / 8 = 500KBytes/sec.
I get about 450KB/Sec on my quickest downloads, but it depends on where i download from as many site would throttle their downloads. According to your figures you should never get more than 12KBytes/second downloads. So, if you try and download files from various websites do you get more than 12KB/s?

This is terrible, switch to a better broadband provider. It's AOLs problem and there is probably nothing you can do at your end.

Oh and if you do switch, make sure you get a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code) from AOL, which you can give to your new provider, doing this will speed up the process of switching and will mean you're only offline for a few hours (if that) while the switch takes place.

    Hello,

Could you provide a little more info ?

    Current provider ?
Are you on BT or Cable ?
If BT is it plugged in Master Socket ?
Has anything changed in the setup recently ? ie. installed a ky box ?
Have you tried connecting on a RJ45 (sometimes call Ethernet or LAN Cable)connect to the router ?

You might want also to check : http://www.pcproblem.co.uk/wordpress-blog/?cat=4

    BT
    yes
    unclear
    yes......

we're waiting on the OP to try a direct link with a modem rather than a router just to confirm poor speed is on thge line, not on his kit :)
