  • Hi CT, to be honest I knew I would get nothing as he doesn't do valentines day where I do ... I'm not bothered about getting nothing as I don't give to recieve, however I am gutted at him being to throughless and starting an argument ... swine! ... there is still an atmosphere now ... I think I will dissapear out tomorrow and stay out of the way!

Do you think we sometimes set ourselves up in life for disppointment? It was really sweet of you to make the hamper for him Rusty but it kind of puts him in a difficult position when you know he doesn't do Valentine's Day and would have nothing to give you in return.

I hope you take this in the spirit in which it's meant as it's not meant to be a criticism. How about giving Valentines Day a miss next year but giving him a Valentine's type gift on a different day instead?).

  • thanks a lot i was well shocked
  • My boyf is currently on a world tour with his theatre show so he sent me gifts.
I got some very yummy handmade truffles, a shiny red heart balloon and.... dead roses :(

    I was so disappointed!
The fact that he's all the way in New Zealand made it even worse as we had an akward conversation:
    him-"did you get the flowers?"
    me-"um.. yes, thank you!"
    him-"how were they?"
me-"um... well, they were... um.. they were flowers"
him- "what? why are you being so ungrateful and horrid?"
me- "um.. well, they were dead! but don't worry I've already sorted your refund"
All this at a million pound a minute international mobile rate on a lonely long distance Valentines.
    Thanks flower company:mad:

They sorted a refund pretty quickly- initially offering a replacement but as Valentines is just one day and they had already messed up (and couldn't re-deliver til Monday) I really wasn't interested. I got the impression I wasn't the first complaint either.
  • I gave:
    - Tickets to the theatre
    - Pre-Theatre dinner (well, I booked, but he paid!)
    - A night in a hotel
    - A card from Moonpig

    I received:
    - Two bottles of perfume
    - A new top
    - A keyring with our favourite pic on
    - A DVD box set
    - A bottle of bubbly
    - A lovely card

And a nice weekend with my lovely boyfriend :)

How did I set myself up for dissapointment? I wasn't giving to recieve as I had already said! I was simply annoyed that he chose to start a row on a very bad day already as my son was going away so he knew things were hard. I will continue to make him valentines presents for years to come, just because he doesn;t do valentines day does not make things awkward. Last year he got me some flowers and a lovely card, this year we are completely skint as he lost his job in Jan but by this time I had already got most of the things and believe it or not the gifts actually cheered him up a little! It is nothing to do with giving to recieve and I hate people who do this!!!

  • Valentine's Day

hubby (of 6 months) was working in namibia and sent me text saying 'Be mine'

i replied with text saying 'i always will'

    awwwwwwwwwwwww

then when he returned on monday i gave him a ktm racing TOASTER (!):rotfl: :rotfl: that he's wanted for ages...

i recieved 2 miffy character pens (he knows i LOVE miffy and its a joke between us.)

was i disappointed? not in the slightest. i waited until he was slepping last night and i crept out of bed and wrote about 30 love notes on post its and dotted them carefully around our flat - he's always up before me! he was whistling away in the kitchen when i woke up.

i love him so much. valentine's day isnt always about giving and recieving. i ADORE him and just wanted him to know :)
