BTW OP if you read your own postings it is YOU that is being rude and insulting to CSA staff. Of course those who you have dealt with personally on your case may deserve to be bad-mouthed, but us on here do not as we have nothing to do with what has happened to you. We do this on here because we WANT to in our own, spare time. So, if you don't want to see genuine help disappear I suggest you calm down and stop seeing everybody in a bad light because of your experiences - as I said before, many staff are actually very well meaning and helpful; there are however a few bad ones out there but don't insult us all.

May i ask a question on this to the csa expert? what if you lose your job and are unemployed for a period of time with arrears still to pay of. - can they still take money and how much?

They can't take arrears from benefits but depending on the circumstances they could apply to the courts to try and recover the money by getting a liability order first and then sending in bailiffs etc. It used to be that if you were on benefits they wouldn't try and recover arrears, but that looks like it may have changed in order to recover as much money as possible. You do need to notify them ASAP of your change in status so that they can reassess you otherwise you will build up arrears based on when you were earning.

Thanks for your reply. One more question -What if you dont have any arrears when you become unemployed. How can you pay the same level of maintenance as what you were paying when you were employed?

If you notify the CSA of the change, then they will do a new assessment from that date, so as soon as you become unemployed then you will have a different assessment, so in short, provided you notify them there will be no need for arrears at all. The point is that it won't change unless you tell them - the onus is on you to notify them if you want it done.

Do not phone them...they may eventually have no record of your phone call and arrears will therefore still accrue...........

Never deal with the csa on the phone, ensure that everything is put in writing.
Tell them, by way of a letter that you do not wish to deal with them over the phone. Send it by recorded delivery
    Never phone!
    Always write!
When you write to them send EVERY letter by recorded delivery and print off the delivery reports from the Royal mail website!
    If they phone you....never speak!
(once they have introduced themselves, DON'T be rude to them, just put the phone down) They supposedly record some / all phone calls for staff training purposes so....dont be rude.
Keep copies of all communication, yours and theirs, don't lose anything!
Build a paper file! Do not lose anything

If you have the time scan everything into your pc so that you have a backup of your paper file
Phone calls will get in the way and conversations can be misunderstood on both sides.
  • Ok I'll give you break Kelloggs, because others believe in you. I still feel you hit me with the 'tough !!!!' attitude, if i'm wrong about you then I'll be the first to stand up and say so. Unfair comments like that to people at rock bottom don't help. I've been in this situation for about 4yrs now and life is hard for me and my partner, meanwhile my ex is going off on holiday 3times a year at our expense. It's hard to swallow.

    Truce.

If you read my post underneath, I was saying tough that we aren't going to stop posting because you don't like what we are saying. It can't always be what you want to hear but will be constructive and helpful wherever possible. If it isn't what you want to hear it will be tough but truthful.
