  • Interesting to find this from about 18 months ago, just as Wren were opening their first showrooms:

Is this not exactly what Wren are now doing with their 50% plus a further 20% off 'deal'?

Wren kitchens is owned by the old MFI Directors !
    The Healey family ?

Hi, I have been a salesman for over 20 years now and consider myself to be one of the honest helpful ones. I just want to say that I am so sick and tired of unreasonable customers, who make stupid demands from us, especially your tradesmen, who get the best deals and then don't pass the benefits onto you, the customer (I see this daily, you get a quote and then he will come and buy the product at his discount and put ££££££££'s onto what he quoted you..DOUBLE CHECK WITH YOUR SUPPLIER ).....you'r fitters are often uqualified to do a job but have an "i,ll have a go" attitude and then when things go wrong because the unqualified fitter mes's up, the fitter will slate the supplier and say " so and so's product is much better" only because he gets to rob you, the customer, by aiming them at the store he, THE FITTER, gets the best discount from. Then when you'r fitter damages or loses something he will say to you... "the supplier messed up Go and "steal" from them because I dont want to have to pay". I have worked in many retail outlets, and to be honest, it's YOU the customer who make your own lives miserable by trying to get the "best deal" all of the time. Well... NEWSFLASH... if you want a Bugatti Veyron pay for a Bugatti Veyron, don't buy a replica for 1/100th of the price and then moan because it doesn't do what you expected a Bugatti to do. :A

Do people actually believe these 'sales'?

Personally - I wouldn't spend my hard earned money with any retailer that has these policies, how can you possibly trust them!

I suspect all that people care about is the bottom line. When I looked around at kitchens, I got some quotes from various companies. I know that some companies have sales all the time, but I don't care. I got a quote from a company that does sales, the price was good, so I went for it, and the process has been A1. The salesman said I had got a £17K kitchen for £12K. It sounded like sales guff, as in my opinion it was a £12K kitchen. In fact it compares well with companies elsewhere pricewise, and the fitting process was incredibly easy and well organised. Overall I would say it was very competitively priced. So I don't think the fact that a company has never ending sales necessarily means they are blood sucking worshippers of satan. As someone else on this thread said, sales do seem to work, or at least a significant proportion of customers are influenced by sales, even if the reality is that they could sell the same item at the same price without bothering with the sales tactic.

I suspect that the whole kitchen thing revolves around the fact that there is a lot of smoke and mirrors. It is hard to price in a good survey and design/plan, and not many people know the difference between units from brand X and brand Y. So sales techniques come to the fore.

    Hi Leif

You make it sound like it must be OK because everyone does it.

Purchasing a new kitchen is such an important purchase so I think you really have to trust your chosen kitchen designer and know they are doing the best job possible for you. How can you when all they have to offer you is sales techniques?
  • This is my 1st post and because I have had such a bad time with wren kitchens during the last 3/4 weeks I felt obliged to give all you DIY fanatics out there a heads up!!
Firstly even though they advertise a sale you can still barter to get a better price.
Secondly their appliances are quite expensive and you can get the same from a supplier for alot less.
Thirdly I would never use them again for the following reasons:-
we received no pre-delivery call to advise when the delivery would be made therefore I was not there to check the delivery
£400 sink was delivered broken - had to find another supplier (which were £60 cheaper)
No hinges or door mechanisms arrived with Bifold wall cabinets - waited 5 days for these to arrive
Cabinets looked like they had been up on a wall somewhere else as there were holes drilled in them
My advice would be to go to a kitchen company that come to your home and measure up and plan even though you may pay a little more in the long run it can only be worth it as it is stressfull enought without Wren Kitchens making it worse.

We too have had a bad experience with Wren.
We ordered our kitchen, with some reservations, at the end of 2011, and we were reassured by the manager that they'd addressed concerns about customer service and satisfaction. Having received this 'personal' guarantee, we proceeded with the order.
Our fitter arrived, and having checked the measurements and design etc, advised that he'd been told that the kitchen would be ready to fit at the beginning of February.
A few days later, he called us back to tell us he'd been told that our kitchen now wasn't going to be delivered until early March, and had rebooked our fit accordingly. Note that this is the fitter calling, not Wren.
We were then given a delivery date, and the kitchen duly arrived on the Friday morning.
Our fitter arrived on the Monday to commence work, only to find that the following was wrong:
    • Two cupboards were the wrong size (800mm rather than the 600mm ordered), which meant that he would not have the kitchen in a state where the worktops could be measured.
    • One corner unit didn't have the correct 'soft closing' mechanism.
    • The sink was completely wrong
    • There were no plinth units delivered, and end panels missing.
All of the above meant that the kitchen was not in a state where we could use it at the end of the week. The incorrect units finally arrived at 7pm on the Friday evening, along with the correct sink, and only one length of plinth was delivered.
Our fitter therefore came back to us on Saturday to finish off. Now we found that a shelf was still missing (from a cupboard that was delivered on the Friday evening), and still waiting for plinths, and the soft closing unit.
The worktops were finally measured the following week, but we were then told, again by our fitter, not by Wren, a few days later, that a machine had broken at the granite cutters, so we would have to wait another week. Because of our belfast sink, this meant we still had no water in the kitchen, as the tap goes through the worktop - bear in mind that if the kitchen had been delivered completely in the first place, we'd have been measured in that first week, so we would have probably missed the cutting machine breakdown at the granite suppliers.
By now, we were despairing of Wren - barely a phone call since ordering, expect to ask for the balance of payment. Calls to them were not returned - and their designer/salesman accused our fitter of lying to us (which he didn't, as my wife was stood next to him whilst the conversation took place).
Now, 5 weeks after the original delivery, and almost 4 months since the order, we are still waiting for our kitchen to be finished off. We finally had a call from the manager on Thursday last week, who offered us a paltry £100 compensation for the problems we'd had. This is a business which makes approx 100% markup on fitting alone - don't go with their fitting service (if you're foolish enough to order from them) - find your own and save yourself a grand or so.
So, whilst we are happy with the quality of the kitchen, and our fitter has been superb, customer service and focus has been appalling.
So, Wren, don't expect any glowing recommendations from us. If we hadn't already had the kitchen fitted and our old one removed, we'd tell you to shove it.

Hi, I'm about to buy a kitchen and visited the Wren showroom in Basildon this weekend.
I was impressed with the quality of the units, and the sales staff were not on your back as soon as you walked through the door which was an added bonus.

However I am very nervous about purchasing a kitchen from them since reading some negative reviews about the customer service.
It's such a big purchase and I can't afford to get it wrong!!

Has anyone purchased a kitchen from them recently?
I have no worries about the quality, I'm just concerned about the after care service!!

Have you looked at DIY kitchens? We're nearly finished doing our kitchen from then and I honestly can't praise them enough (although I would like commision from them as I've recommended them that often!)
  • I recently bought my kitchen from direct online kitchens.... there an online company with a real life showroom so the prices are amazing..... quality is great too!!!
I'm very much into the whole 'buy british' thing at the moment and this company is UK owned and the products are made here too (i checked before i bought), so I supported our economy too :j:j:j
