Cheap Apple Mac Notebooks

Macs compare quite favourably price-wise to PCs of similar build quality and spec.
A Dell XPS is a similar price to an iMac (and I would argue, not anywhere nearly as well put together).
Dont get me wrong I've never bought a Dell and never would, I think they are over priced. Acer are my company of choice for laptops. They don't look as pretty, well at least some of them, but build wise I swear by them. But they wouldn't make more profit. Apple make most of their profit selling hardware. They're a hardware company first and foremost. Releasing OS X for PCs would mean they would be giving people a reason not to buy their hardware. They aren't really in competition with Microsoft as much as they are with Dell, Sony, HP, Toshiba, etc. Releasing OS X to all would be like saying "please, give someone else your money".
If it started selling OSX seperately they would make more money from software which would imo dwarf what they make in hardware.
But I agree its OSX that gives them an excuse for overpriced hardware. People would still buy they're hardware but they might make money off people who couldn't afford to buy a mac but could apples OS.0 -

I think he's referring to the XPS One, which is Dell's crack at getting all a PC's innards (using laptop componentry) inside the monitor casing, iMac style. They're as overpriced as an iMac, too.
For what it's worth, a friend of mine has had an Acer laptop since 2001. It's had a RAM upgrade and a new battery and is running Windows XP as well as ever.0 -
I swear by acer in laptops. Now ASUS have the EEE Top which is touch screen as well, I'd be looking towards them for challenging apple in the aesthetics especially since they've also made a computer that runs in a keyboard. They seem to be coming out with excellent systems recently.0

Now hey, don't even dare go there!
It is a choice based on individual circumstances wether you go for an Apple system, a Linux system or a Windows system.
yeah, i'll agree with that.
As a webby, i got more and more into design, and felt that the mac would fit my needs better. My first, second, third... etc etc computers were all PC's, but i first bought a cheap laptop (brand new) and then eventually got rid of windows all together, and now happily use a mac.
Personally, I don't think I'll change back, I'm happy using apple macs, as does my sister and mother, who found them easier to use than a PC. (my mum couldn't get to grips with windows no matter what, took to a mac like a duck to water!)0 -

Apple had a turnover of $32 billion last year. I think they're doing OK.NickMidgley wrote: »I think he's referring to the XPS One, which is Dell's crack at getting all a PC's innards (using laptop componentry) inside the monitor casing, iMac style. They're as overpriced as an iMac, too.
Are there any cheap all-in-one systems? Now ASUS have the EEE Top which is touch screen as well, I'd be looking towards them for challenging apple in the aesthetics especially since they've also made a computer that runs in a keyboard. They seem to be coming out with excellent systems recently.
Do you know what Taiwanese company manufactures MacBooks for Apple?0 -

I'm not saying there going under mate just saying they would make more. I know if I had a choice between windoze and OSX I'd go for OSX, for two reasons, its based on BSD so is more secure and two it looks better.Do you know what Taiwanese company manufactures MacBooks for Apple?
No, care to enlighten?0 -

Well, I guess they're happy with the amount of money they're making.
I'd be very surprised if they released OS X for PCs, but stranger things have happened I guess. No, care to enlighten?0 -
I kinda guessed it might be ASUS. I guess apple are, if they did M$ would carp themselves, cos unlike the only other competitor (linux) apple have money behind them and if M$ started to try FUD it wouldn't work.
It wouldn't surprise me if its M$ behind them not releasing it separately.0 -
Psystar are still trying to counter-sue Apple:

They didn't have much luck before, so I'd be surprised if they were successful this time.
The real question is where a little company like Psystar is getting all this money. Someone is paying all those legal bills.0
