Cheap Apple Mac Notebooks

They probably would, but it would probably cost Apple more in development time to build a driver framework and system that can couple with the millions of different pieces of hardware, plus they would have to increase their support systems. And they would loose the unique selling point of their hardware.
They would do it the way M$ do it, hardware manufacturers would want their stuff to work under OSX so as long a apple provided them with something to work with they'd write the drivers themselves. Besides anything else the huge profits they'd make they would be able to afford that development team.
Apple wouldn't do this though that way they wouldn't be able to sell overpriced bog standard hardware in pretty shells. All the laptops I've ever seen with the same build quality as a MacBook Pro are for sale in the Apple Store.
Then you've obviously not looked far, maybe a little star struck? They already are making a killing. They also make much more profit selling hardware than they do selling software, so it doesn't really make much sense devaluing their brand, cutting off their main source of profit, and not to mention making their OS more unreliable. Recently, when it was suggest that Apple should introduce a cheaper model of the iPhone, they responded that they don't want to make a cheap phone, they just wanted to make the best. I imagine the same holds true of other aspects of their business too.
People already do take it up. 50% of all purchases in Apple retail stores are people switching from Windows, and once they've switched, they have a higher customer retention rate than any other computer manufacturer.
I don't think they really need to worry.0 -

The new aluminium frame macbooks are really tough, not like the flimsy build you get in cheap laptops (looking at you, Sony Vaio that fell to bits...). On the other hand, by getting a cheaper windows laptop you might not worry so much carrying it around. Well, thats my usual dilemma.
Macs do hold their 2nd hand value, but watch out for scammers if using ebay (I sold a mac there a few years ago, had to filter out the scammers from real buyers).0 -
Macs can be good 2nd hand. From what I can see on eBay, they hold their value quite well for the seller but as a buyer you can save yourself significantly over buying new.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

(Psst MAC is a type of make up, Mac is a type of computer)
No, you cannot, Mac's aren't the cheapest, I could try and explain why I choose to use them but PC fanboys can't understand so I choose not to bother!!Kavanne

It is a choice based on individual circumstances wether you go for an Apple system, a Linux system or a Windows system.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? As far as build quality goes, if you want something sturdy you can get a toughbook for similar money to a higher end apple laptop - and those can take a bit of punishment... There are plenty of reasons to buy and apple - but if wanting a machine that's as rugged as possible, I'd still be looking at a non-apple PC.0

Macs compare quite favourably price-wise to PCs of similar build quality and spec.
A Dell XPS is a similar price to an iMac (and I would argue, not anywhere nearly as well put together). Then you've obviously not looked far, maybe a little star struck? They would make a lot more profit if it was sold separately a lot more besides which they would directly challenge M$ and stand a good chance of winning. I'd argue that they don't make the best stuff they make pretty stuff its all in the gimmics. Now hey, don't even dare go there!

I think that's a quite optimistic appraisal of the amount of thought people put into choosing what operating system to use.
I would argue that for most people it's a choice based upon whatever the nearest PC World have in stock. Many people don't even know there's an alternative to Windows, and if they do, quite often they don't want to even try it because they're "used to using Windows".
People use whatever they're given generally, and then come on here and agonise over what photo sharing website to use, or some other aspect of computing minutiae.
It's a little like buying the first car you see, and then spending weeks researching what brand of petrol to put in it.
The mind boggles.0
