Moving on from the 'Bathing' thread - childrens PJ's

I've read this whole thread after being linked from the toilet thread
Interesting to read how much extra work people seem to make for themselves
DS doesn't always wear PJ's, unless it's a particulary cold night then i'll make him wear them, but when he does he'll wear them 3 or 4 times unless he spills something on them. I don't wear PJ's in bed but i will wear them several times when out of the bath before bed.
We all wear underwear under our pj's, clean if we've had a bedtime bath, the day ones if no bath that night.
I wear tights a lot, if it's the thin tan tights i will only wear them once, if they are black thick winter tights i usually wear them a couple of times. I will wear socks twice but no more, i don't get sweaty feetWe wear clothes until they get dirty or start losing their shape (or smell) which is usually no more than 3 times depending on who and the item!
I don't wash the cats unless they've been rolling around in oil, and the dog gets a wash when she smell like erm.. wet dog! That's only if she's been out in the rain a few times or for a swim in the river
We hang towels up after showers but OH's used towels never seem to dry properly so i try to make sure i use my own the next time - we reuse towels 2 or 3 times.
Before getting my new bed and bedding sets I'd not change my sheets for ages, probably over a month. Since OH moved in it's more like fortnightly as he sweats a fair amount. In the summer it needs to be as and when becuase some nights he can even sweat through the pillowcases .
What bedding do you actually have on your bed? At the minute all we have on the mattress is a fitted sheet but i feel this isn't enough for the weather getting warmer (with sweaty OH). Then we have the duvet in cover but nothing else. How many sheets do you use?
I just have one sheet on the mattress with a duvet, but my Mum also has a top sheet below the duvet - can't wait to hear the replies to this one! :rotfl:Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0 -

I always use a sheet beneath the duvet because, even in the winter, I often throw the duvet off, but can't sleep if there's nothing covering me.
In any case, the sheet is far quicker to whip off and wash, which means I don't have to wash the duvet cover as often (and the ensuing battle to get another one on a king-size duvet).
Beeniecat - I would put a draw-sheet (flat sheet doubled or trebled) under your bottom sheet so that OH doesn't sweat through onto the mattress.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

I have to change my duvet cover quite often because the dog thinks our bed is his bed!
Since I got a memory foam mattress I get much hotter ( ) in bed and now have the lightest of our (many) duvets on all year round and can see me eventually moving to a top sheet and bed spread (or what ever they call them these days).

It's so weird reading how different we all are ...... I've found as I've got older (and fatter) I sweat far more so clothes need changing more often or I know I would pong!
When the kids were little they had clean pjs most nights for the simple reason they ate breakfast in them and usually made a mess, which saved ruining school clothes! Now they just sleep in clean boxers and (I think ) put on clean ones in the morning. They didn't wear pants under pjs but I do. It feels more comfortable and soaks up any discharge etc meaning I can wear them for a couple of nights unless I've had a hot flush and soaked everything! I always change pants night and morning and normally wear a panty liner all day as well I can't stand having grubby underwear (comes from working in a hospital and seeing people brought into casualty who didn't take their Mum's advice to always wear clean undies!! )
Sheets and towels are hot washed around once a week sometimes more often if they get pongy. We all have our own towels in different colours I wouldn't want to use someone elses and I'm certainly not washing five bath towels every day ! We all bath every night , always have, sometimes I shower in the morning as well, if my hair needs washing. I couldn't go to bed with someone and either of us not have had a bath or shower very yucky !
I have never understood friends who put a sheet over a matress with no cover ! Surely the mattress gets filthy ? I always put a waterproof sheet and then a thick fleecy type mattress cover on. Both are washed around every 6-8 weeks because they look grubby, they are full of dust, we shed loads of skin as we sleep. Never mind me let loose with coffee in bed at the weekends , I'm always spilling it! How can people tolerate a mattress stained with bodily fluids from periods sex etc etc !
I always put waterproof sheets on the childrens beds as you never know if they are going to throw up etc in the night. Now they are older there's the chance of getting drunk and yucky stuff , they haven't yet but I'd rather be prepared than have a ruined matress. they don'y know any different !
Duvets are washed about once a year, single ones at home, doubles at the launderette.
That said I am dreadful with the rest of the housework and it's terribly untidy here.
Oh and I never iron except for weddings, job interviews etc , life's too busy to be doing boring things like that! Stuff that looks terrible not ironed just doesn't get worn after it's first wash it just sits in the ironing basket and waits...... mind you I always dress very casually and wear a uniform for work which looks fine without ironing!

Slightly TMI question, but ladies who sleep without pants, do you not find you ... er ... dribble? Not talking about that time of the month, but other times. We have got black sheets so when they are on, v. obvious!
i am embarased to admit, i agree with this...this is why i wear knickers to bed lol. otherwise i'd need clean pj's each night etc...Mommy to Elliot (5) and Lewis (born xmas eve 11!)0 -
I have laughed so much that DH is looking at me! It's v interesting and I love this kind of nosey-ness!!!!
So for us...............
6 in the house, couldn't possibly think of changing PJ's and towels everyday!
Each has their own towel for shower, hung to dry and washed weekly on Saturday so i can hope to get them outside to dry. Used to do them on 60' but changed to 40' in interests of MSE. Very strict on only using your own towel and at the mo have childrens names embroidered so no mistakes can be made. Problem comes when at Mums when we have to have strict 'places' to hang, as all her towels are much the same so no other way to know whose is whose. (BTW I was pretty put out last time when I realised that she has some fluffy ones but deliberately gives us the threadbare ones. Not sure why this is but I don't think much to it) Those with long hair have a hair towel (turbi thingy) and I jumped for joy when I found a pink one for me so children didn't mistake mine for theirs. Also washed weekly. Hand towels changed in bathrooms once a week or when needed. Kitchen tea towel the same.
This is my pet hate though and I think it is disgusting and I get really annoyed when people do it coz I have to go and clean the kitchen sink when they do it - luckily not that many of my friends deal in nappies anymore but WHY DO THEY GO AND WASH THEIR HANDS IN THE KITCHEN AFTER THEY'VE CHANGED A NAPPY IN MY HOUSE?
PJs-when sheets are washed or when required and also when sheets are washed - can't beat that clean body-clean sheets-clean PJs feeling!
Pants - everyone clean after shower or before bed if no shower. But (this is shocking so be warned) these pants are the same as we wear the next day.
So, how about washable ST's??????????????????
PS forgot about what bedding - hate a sheet and duvet combination - just makes more washing and the sheet just gets crumpled up and annoying anyway. Under the bottom sheet we have a mattress protector because - didn't you know? You should have as many layers under as you have over in order to keep warm. It also helps to protect the mattress - funny that!0 -
One of the best things about the internet imho is this kind of thead where no one knows anyone else! I wonder if there has ever been a 'How often...' thread about our sex lives, or have we got that delight to come? :rotfl:Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0

:rotfl: I was just wondering if we'd discuss dribbly wotnots with complete strangers in RL! :rotfl:
Re having a sheet under a duvet - I know lots of people who do this and tbh, I was looking at the flat sheet I have the other day (came with the bed set) and wondering if it would be easier to use that and wash it weekly and only wash the duvet cover once a month.0
