Eco-wash balls at Aldi

  • Sorry folks - have to tell you that I got 3 mini balls with a very cheap laundry bag from Woolworths before they closed down. From memory I spent less than £2 (including the bag - useful to keep underwear and socks in one place). I did not know that they could be used instead of detergent and thought they were intended as a substitute for fabric conditioner. Have to admit that I rarely use fabric conditioner as I do not like the smell! But the balls CERTAINLY work IMHO as my clothes seem to emerge tangle free and softer than usual. I do not use much washing powder anyway - just as much as I think the clothes really need as I probably wash more often than i should anyway. But now I am encouraged to consider washing occasionally without any detergent just to see how it goes!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Fun to think of all us Mse fans washing with the same balls!!
  • We must have used the eco balls sans any form of wash powder/fabric softnener at least 15 times since we got them so I'm entirely sure there will be no soap powder residue anywhere in the washing machine...and we are still getting great results! I have absolutely no idea *how* they work (I'm suspecting some of it may be due to the agitation of the water, anyway, but in some way enhanced by the action of the balls  ). One thing this episode has taught us is the wash powder companies really have been taking the mick with the amount of wash powder they recommend we use per wash.

I've not tried it myself but I suspect that the above statement may well be true.
Has anyone tried washing using nothing but water?

I used to wash baby clothes in just water. They always came out clean.
