I don't mind reps from utility companies being here, as long as they are responsible like Eon and register their credentials with MSE. How many others are here, under the radar giving out 'impartial' advice?

Plus we can metaphorically beat them over a head with a stick.;)

I know last time I rang I was on hold for ages, but hey I rang the free phone number, not ringing the 0845. EDF have a free phone number, why don't E-ON?!

The 0800363363 number worked last time I tried about a month ago.

...We might be able to drop prices further in future if the wholesale prices carry on coming down...

Oh, I missed that bit earlier.

That stacks up with what the boss of SSE has been suggesting for quite a while.

Unfortunately he blew the whistle to that idea when he too met with MPs at the Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee recently

When energy firm bosses met MPs earlier this week, Scottish and Southern's chief executive Ian Marchant said that prices may rise again because wholesale energy prices for summer 2010 were about 10% higher than they are now.
"I'm concerned that if the wholesale price increases, we might see an increase," he said.
"I would have expected us to see another round of decreases [in energy bills] later this year or early next year, but objective analysis suggests that this might not happen." Consumer groups said that news was a "big blow" to customers already struggling with bills.

Are you suggesting Mr Marchant was wrong in his statement to the Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee about future wholesale prices currently rising, when E.on believe they are still carrying "on coming down"?

Edit: It looks like uSwitch have picked up on this too:
...Will Marples, energy expert at uSwitch, said: "Energy price cuts are coming in low and slow, averaging out at £66 or five per cent so far.

"There is still a slim glimmer of hope that there will be a second wave of cuts this year, but consumers should certainly not bank on it."

He added energy suppliers are already hinting prices will go back up again next year...

...The reason that our price reduction is only for electricity is that we’ve already been amongst the cheapest out there for gas during the winter, when people need it most. And although British Gas dropped their gas prices by 10%, it really only brought them into line with what ours have been for months. ...

Another switching company manager hits out, this time Scott Byrom from moneysupermarket.com
(I'm sure Scott is a Company Representative here on MSE too, but I doubt he'll want to get involved personally in a thread about another company)
Commenting on E.ON cutting electricity prices by nine per cent, Scott Byrom, utilities manager at moneysupermarket.com said: "Strike three in the energy price war comes from E.ON - the first non-British energy provider of the ‘Big Six' to drop prices this year. This move marks the first reaction to MPs criticism yesterday of ‘foreign-owned' energy providers who are yet to drop their retail prices. Effective 31st March 2009, its 4.1 million customers will benefit from a nine per cent price reduction to the cost of it's electricity - meaning the average bill for standard customers now stands at £1,253 - £44 cheaper per annum, but this is still more expensive than offerings from British Gas and Scottish & Southern following their price cuts.

"Despite this move from E.ON the Websaver 1 tariff from British Gas remains the cheapest on the market at £1,058....

    I would also like to ask (as KimYeovil) has;

Why is the standing charge on your standard tariff so extortionate.

    It is £129.24 per annum!

That is nearly 3 times the charges made by your competitors.

(Note I live in the East Mids region Rate 1 first 900 units 25.02p Rate 2 10.66p).

I can understand why that question was asked.

I personally want to share what I know with whoever needs the help, regardless of who supplies them.

Over the past couple of weeks we have had some very positive response to us being here. We will continue to do so while we are helping the general public.

You sound like a politician. Quite frankly, the sooner the Regulator refers energy prices to the Competitions Commission the better. To be honest, it should have been done months ago.

Agreed. The funny thing is, i genuinely believe British Gas took the threat seriously, hence what appears to be easily the biggest decrease in gas prices announced so far (still pathetic, though). I wonder if they are now rueing their hastiness, given the derisory (or, one in case, non-existant) cuts by the other members of the Big 6 [STRIKE]cartel[/STRIKE] club in their gas prices. :rotfl:
