I dont live in the usual student area either. I'm a mature student living with my partner, living the quiet life.
Live in a similiar place. It might be worth taking photographs because five miles down the road from me, everything is gritted and clear and people don't really believe it!0 -
Tell me about it, our lectures never start on time because we're always waiting for late-comers who come in when they feel like it if they do at all0

I know, but the lecturer knows I spent hours on this project. I kept having to ask him for the key to the labs so I could go in and work, as he only permitted us 2 hours a week. nobody else did this.
I could submit the report, but it wouldnt be much really without the analysis of the situation and how the problems were handled and overcome.0 -
I don't suppose you could demonstrate on webcam for him? That sounds sooo bad I know but if you have one and can't get in would he accept that as your work being submitted?
Thats a great idea as I know he puts up some of the students work on you tube. I could print off/make everything else for the demonstration!!
Thats a fantastic idea!!!0 -

If he knows that you have spent hours on the project and have needed lab keys etc. for extra work, this definately helps your case! He knows that you are not like the other students.
Moreover, lecturers tend to have very good impressions of mature students and even non-mature ones who don't do the whole 'student thing' (I know that my relationship with a couple of lecturers changed (for the better) when I was a UG and told them I lived in a small village with my partner- I felt that they kind of gave me more respect).
I would definately e-mail him to warn him that you may not be in tomorrow. I would also suggest the youtube idea to him. Even if he laughs at it, at least it shows you are trying to get your demonstration done!'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. I dont think he knows I am a mature student, he doesnt pay much attention. I may just mention it to him tomorrow in a nice way while being apologetic. I wasnt trying to rile him, I only wanted a reply! 2 words!!
Arrr the snows started to settle!!0 -
None of my tutors ever respond to any of my communications either, and cancel/change lectures at the drop of a hat, its ridiculous. I'm paying thousands of pounds a year to be taught by them!trying to become a moneysaving student0

You could have a whole pouring-your-heart out thing and slip in your mature status.
'I am really worried about getting a mark of fail for the demonstration because I missed the session because of the weather. I really hope it doesn't affect my mark for this module. I worked really hard on the project and I'd hate for it to be at all wasted. It was a big decision for me to leave work and go back into studying after X years, so I really hope that after all of my hard work I haven't messed things up'.
I really hope everything works out okay for you on this. Some lecturers can be very arrogant, especially with UG students as they see them as an inconveniance and a distraction from their research, which is the real reason that they are at university! However, in my experience these sort of lecturers tend to be in the minority!!
Please post again and let us know how you get on with this. Good luck!'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. Although the money that you are paying is a lot to you (and all students), it is peanuts compared to how much lecturers (or research groups or departments) are given by research councils.
The majority of univeristies funding comes from research activities, not student fees. And, unfortunately this is sometimes reflected in lecturers attitudes towards UG students.'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. Things have changed now, you are paying tuition fees to the uni so YOU are a paying customer.... complain, complain, complain... Tell them you want a proportional refund on tuition fees.0
