  • Do you live in a remote place then? When it snows here (York) the buses all still run and its not too far for me to walk!

If you are concerned about getting in tomorrow, I would e-mail him tonight and state that you may be snowed in.
Say something like 'I very much hope I am able to make the lecture tomorrow, however, heavy snow makes it impossible for me to reach university because of the disruption that it causes to the trains/buses (or whatever the reason). If I do miss the lecture tomorrow, I hope this will not count against me in the long run'.
'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. That's how British I am' Constantine-Simms. :T

  • Its not an assignment its a demonstration of something I built. I cant hand it in. There is a report to go with it but the reports no good if I cant do the denonstration.

It was basially test, to see if what we built was any good at its task.
  • Is there a chance of getting into college before the snow starts again, has it thawed out any? If you could get in tommorrow and track him down it may be better talking to him face to face, sometimes people can get the wrong idea of a person's tone from emails, I'm the same with text messages I think they're being stroppy when that wasn't the intention at all.

For your attendance though, the other students should be able to vouch for you, they have no reason to lie about it
  • oops already been answered that one, my bad for being a slow typer hehe
  • No no where remote, just a valley. Pokes Location.... The council are daft they dont grit our roads they are "unimportant" and because of that the busses dont run. The roads are pretty steep either side of us (I'm right at the bottom).

I dont live in the usual student area either. I'm a mature student living with my partner, living the quiet life.
  • I agree with Piggles though, email him ASAP if you think there's a risk of not getting in tommorrow, leave a message on his answerphone if you have to, beastly things that they are. Answerphones that is not lecturers :D
  • The trouble with the attendance is that most of the other students dont turn up, and are lazy. I'm being lumped in with them and I'm trying to work hard, but I think hes given up on our class.

We were hit pretty bad by the snow, our university had to close for half a day. That was the day before our demonstration.
  • Good idea I will email him very nicely about the snow!!!

I just hope he doesnt think I am being facetious.

It is probably worth submitting the report as soon as possible as that shows that it has been done.

The difficulty is that some students don't turn up to lectures and try to use every excuse available to excuse what is really laziness, or an inability to prioritise time, and of course that is not just students, so you need to make every effort to show you does not apply to you.

If you don't have a personal tutor, there should be someone you can speak to, is there a tutor assigned to your year? Try asking an approachable lecturer the best way of going about this, maybe.
  • I don't suppose you could demonstrate on webcam for him? That sounds sooo bad I know but if you have one and can't get in would he accept that as your work being submitted?
