Yes it happens everyday but I have never been up to find out if it makes a noise. No you can't change the time it happens. I am pretty sure you can turn the EPG update off... but my ES20 has been returned and I am awaiting a replacement so haven't got the manual on me. From memory you need to go to the menu option where you can retune the channels - I think it is the Others option where you can change the EPG update. Try having a look in the manual. Otherwise I can tell you tomorrow when I get my new ES20.
If you turn it off though you won't have a 7 day program guide populated - you will probably just get today and tomorrow information.0 -
Problem is I haven't been up either - but I'm a light sleeper so it's woken me up! Only noticed it in the last few days.2p off is still 2p off!0

This happens with Freeview HD pvrs too, and usually at 3 am.
This is an issue if you use them in bedrooms, causing disturbed sleep. The noise of the innards whirling into action can vary greatly from machine to machine, and is often discussed in the Digital forums like

Those that use the Freeview 8-day EPG shouldn't need to wake up in the night, should they? After all, the data for this is transmitted continuously. My Freeview set top box is completely switched off when I'm not using it, and is never short of EPG info - although last night's delay to the BBC1 Ten O'clock News wasn't compensated for!Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

This is what we are after, what model do you have Jenny ? ? we had thought our only option would be to buy a freeview box with a hard drive and a dvd recorder with freeview. dh will only panasonic.0 -
Just been into Tesco and they have again reduced the ES10 to £109. I know its discontinued and Richersounds offer more models but I bought this a month ago and have been very impressed with the quality. No Freeview and No hard drive but for straight forward recording and RAM disc flexability I think its hard to beat.
Makes my Cyberhome 1600 look like a biscuit tin (It went back, AGAIN)
Secondly can anyone explain why Tesco online charge so much more for the same products, right now the same DVD recorder is £179 on line with them!
Pity soom fool that thinks online is always cheaper and orders it.Ta0 -
Is this still on offer in Tesco stores? How do I find out which stores have them in at that price?0

Tesco Extra Cardiff had them still in stock today at £109..Ta0
