Came on this thread thinking someone had found the original Panasonic recorder, only to find it had been hi-jacked by someone promoting themselves (ego?) and Maplin, effectively a clearout close to sell by date Analogue +DVD limited device, if you live in Wales or Cumbria your "Bargain" will be short lived.

I am hoping to get the ES20 multiregion from Richer Sounds today or tomorrow for £146.89 including 4 DVD-RAM disks. Richer Sounds promise to price match and give you £10 back if you find it cheaper. PRCDirect have the ES20 for £156.89 including 4 DVD-RAM disks. The RAM disks are probably worth about £8 so if I can pull this off it is effectively cheaper than buying the Region 2 version (which is £139.95). What I am not sure about is whether they will give me the RAM disks as part of the price match....and I need PRCDirect to have stock when Richer Sounds ring them.

If you don't need Freeview then the ES10 model is good value at £109.95.

    Jeeeees !!!!!

I can't believe the negativity of some folks.
I'm only trying to HELP PEOPLE and doing so has nothing to do with ego.
Someone has already raised the question of why the Maplin product was being discussed here (not started by me). I have as a result opened a new thread about it (the other day) and given a direct link to it.

I have spent time on this in an effort to be of assistance and find your attitude insulting.
I have nothing to gain and am trying to help people like me who might be looking for a low cost way to move up from video recorders. Having had experience of other makes and models and spending time looking for the best low cost sollution I just thought there may be other members of MSE who might appreciate the info.

Shame that some people focus on negativity and not positivity in their lives.

    Wilf.

p.s. I clicked your 'thanks' button with an ironic smirk as clearly you have an ego complex to request people click it for you. LOL

    .
    Keep smiling!

Well - have just got back from Richer Sounds in Preston after trying to buy the ES20 multi region... very frustrated. Won't be bothering with dealing with them again.

I took down my printouts of other websites with better prices. Richer Sounds rang the first and confirmed that they had stock but despite them having free delivery there was an option for £10 for guaranteed next day delivery - so they added that on to the price.

So I gave them another website to ring. Again they had stock and it included next day delivery for £154.95. According to Richer Sounds website http://ws4.richersounds.com/information.php?cda=static&cst=pricebeat they say they will match the price and give £10 back. No way! First they said that the internet company was in Weymouth which was outside their area. Then he said the price match did not apply and after a while offered to sell it me for £150. I said I may as well buy it from PRCDirect for £156.89 and get free delivery and free DVD-RAM discs. However, it was the principle that got me... their website seems clear about the price match. I don't know how they can justify renaging on it. I have too much time on my hands and will be following this up with Trading/Advertising Standards & Julian Richer.

Sloooow reply... Searcher2, sorry! Not had any problems really, but I usually record off sky anyway using the 'autoview' on the sky and a timed recording on the box. It is a bit complex at first - much harder than owning a sky+. plus it only has a single tuner effect so I have a compicated scart arrangement going on behind my telly! Either way, class piece of kit, and I don't have to pay any subscription fees, which is a bonus.

Shame about Richer Sounds, I always get good service from them in Sheffield. I asked for the region 2 version on this and a standard panny player and as they didn't have them in stock they just gave me the multi-region of both for the same price, plus a discount. Come to think of it, they offerred me £30 off an AV amp as well when I bought the Pioneer one instead, didn't even have to haggle. I like them, seems strange they were a bit wierd with you.

Well - I have emailed their customer services to find out why this happened. I suspect it could just be a bad manager in the Preston store. Dependent on customer services reply I may try the Manchester shop on Saturday as I pass by one then and see if their staff are any friendlier.

Has anyone had problems with theirs? Mine is behaving very oddly, the last few nights in the middle of the night it makes a funny noise for about 30 secs or so which sounds like it's trying to read the disc, even though the machine is off (on standby). Anyone else have this? I guess the simple solution is not to leave a DVD in it but I'll know I'll forget to put it in and miss recording some of my programmes.
2p off is still 2p off!
