Ormus, lewie are wrong and misleading not to mention biased (again), roof coating is about £80-90 vat for 15 ltrs and if sprayed on goes about 20 mrs per coat, per tub. It (if a high quality version) a well proven and industry standard product made and supplied by some of the largest and most respected coating companies in the world. The issue is, the plebs that sell it for silly money and their plonker fitters who do the job wrong. All these hundreds of comments of which many are being made by the same few members (including me), are only opinions and some 'members' have never even seen roof coating done correctly, some are roofers, and some have ACTUALY DONE THE JOB. Yes there are some eejits doing it, as in any home improvement, but due to Aquashield milking the system at very high prices and very low quality.0

so a "high quality liquid" for a roof is about 100/200 quids worth then?

Exactly. Now you see the con.
Knowloads has decided to get personal (again) because he has done the 'conning' in the past and has to justify it.
Like I said, you can end up paying almost (sometimes more) the same amount to have your roof sprayed with some 'fantastic high tech stuff' as to have NEW felt, NEW lathe, NEW tiles, NEW pointing.
It also takes twice as long to retile the roof as to 'clean' and spray it.
I'll let you, and knowloads, do the math.0 -
Do cold-calling roofing companies have a list of people to target? Pensioners / women living alone / likely soft touches?
Every two or three months for the last couple of years, some company or other claiming that my roof needs de-mossing / sealing / etc has come to my door. Mostly a different company each time, but sometimes one will pay a return visit to try again to persuade me to part with large sums of money.
I had suspected I was on a list, but today I'm convinced I must be. Yet another company rep came today - I was in the garden at the time, so could see that he drove directly to my house, and when he left, he left the area without visiting any of my neighbours.
I am a female pensioner living alone.0 -
Just got a quote of £5,800 to coat my roof with this water based silicon stuff that apparently comes with a 10 year guarentee !!
My roof has been on since 1925 which so 85 years probably been pointed and a few tiles replaced over the years and had no moss or other things attach themselves to my roof.
Could probably geta new roof for the price quoted by this company
Rip off gangsters comes to mind0 -

Not sure about that one connie.
It's so difficult now to remember who you have spoken to and revealed your details to.
There should be some way to stop them ringing your bell in the same way that you can register your phone number.
Either way it's a invasion of privacy and cold calling should be outlawed.
I've been self employed for over 25 years now and I have never knocked on anyones door to tout for work and never will.
Try a decent sized poster somewhere on your property saying 'NO cold callers, especially salesmen.'0 -
Yes your right it is a rip off. You could easily get a new roof for thatstevirobbo wrote: »Just got a quote of £5,800 to coat my roof with this water based silicon stuff that apparently comes with a 10 year guarentee !!

Hey - new to the forum and it was this particular issue that got me to register.
I read some comments a few weeks ago after i had signed up with Aquashield and the work has been done, although i have not paid them for it yet - only the deposit.
couple of things are bothering me though, mainly the price I agreed for this work. The salesman was very slick and I unfortunatley fell for the old game of "start them high and then close low" - thinking i had got a decent price for the work.
However after watching them carry out the work there is no way i want to pay the agreed amount. I know what I think is a fair price now after seeing what they actually did and I am about to send them a greatly reduced payment.
Anyone here give me any tips on how I should deal with them after this? I suspect they wont just sit back and accept this after I have signed up for a higher price but I feel they have not kept up their side of the contract and have conned me into paying too high a price and made inflated claims on the usefulness and necessity of the product. I am no lawyer but surely I have some grounds here?

anyone typed into utube and seen them on rogue traders i wonder, these companies change names on a reg basis therefore i would imagine the guarantee would be null and void, just type the names into google and there is pages and pages of unhappy customers.0

Yer Ma.
I doubt you have much chance of getting away with a reduced payment.
You would have to prove that they have conned you, that would be expensive. You would need expert witnesses.
Pjac.
Most 'guarantees' are useless.
Insurance backed ones are full of clauses and company ones rely on the company abiding by the guarantee.
If the company decides to ignore you, you then have to take them to court. Again, loads of cash involved.0
