No2aquashield. I follow this thread with great interest, having being in this industry (once uon a time). It never ceases to amaze me that these guys will do this kind of thing, whilst fervently chasing those who do try and cancel within the given cooling off period. I guess you paid 25% up front. Even with a deposit £1000, I would expect you can still get the job done for a remaining balance of £2500. I have spoken with a chap from what I have discovered to be one of the UK's original 3 roof coating companies (going back 12 yrs) who has said that eve the new thermal reflective system can be done correctly for around £20 mtr: He also said he get s 10-15 calls a week from people who have been quoted £35-60 per sq mtr by the above. This 'customer friendly' company recently complete a roof that the AQ-rep had said was 490mtrs (actually 350), for £7000 where the Aq rep had quoted £32,000 reduced to £15,000 as a special offer. One thing to point out about this whole ream of stuff about roof coating , is that (for example) the trend for UPVc roof line products, double glazing, etc etc is riddled with a shocking and extensive price gaps, with some of the largest and most well known names really far too expensive due to the use of commission only sales and fitting staff. Go for the throat.... they will bottle out sooner.

    Dear Knowloads
i was not willing to allow them within a mile from my property after what they did. I'm guessing that fixing a mess they've created will cost more. I did, however, after a considerable amount of chasing been able to get to the point were they said that they will refund my deposit. I haven't seen the money yet but keeping my fingures corssed for now.
that leaves me with trying to fix my roof 9 month down the line!
any recommendation on a decent roofer who wouldn't cost the earth?

    !!!!!!.
Can't believe that there are still people asking about this bullsh*te 'solution' to a 'problem' that is none existent.

Lets assume some half wit con artist hadn't knocked on your door and told you
    'you need your roof coating'

    Come on, think about it.
You are sitting watching the TV and there ISN'T a knock on the door
    Would you suddenly think
'you know what, I must phone someone to see if I need my roof coating'

I'm 99.9% sure the answer would be NO!

In other words, your roof was not causing you concern, there is no reason that your roof should cause you concern unless you have water dripping on your head while you sleep.
If this happens, ask a ROOFER to look at your roof and see what the problem is.
Most of us are honest (I know I am) and will tell you how to remedy the problem.

Any one that tells you your roof 'needs coating' IS LYING!!!!!!!

Lewie and one or two others will never be convinced, so why try and change a man religion. Only need or love will do that, so no hope here then. majority of people will do this for cosmetic reasons, just as they would put PVCu roof line products up, when wood has been used for 1000 years. ALTERNATIVE TO A NEW ROOF could be construde as a replacement, buts its an intrim answer. I am far too old to consider a new roof (on my 1960's house) ,that will last 50 yrs as i will be long gone before then. However I if I had a moss problem, a tatty looking roof that spoiled the look of my house, or had seen a 'good' roof coating job down the road, I would use this service for the very thing it is good for. I am sure if Lewie needed the work and could do it, he would cross the divide. If you want someone in Kent to 'repair' the damage done by 'cowboys' ask roof-coaters.com who are mentioned here on these threads (not by me Lewie, Ormus, MWroofline etc etc etc). I think it about time that some of the regulars here started to address the answers not hark on about the cause. We all know the cause by now.

    Not so.
Those that pedal this con trick convince the householder that their roof tiles are porous, never have I heard of anyone wanting this stuff on their roof for 'cosmetic' reasons.
There is one up the road from us and it sticks out like a sore thumb.
As for plastic, most have uPVC so they don't have to get up ladders to paint the wood.
I am sure if Lewie needed the work and could do it, he would cross the divide.

Not so, I have to believe in something before I can do it.
I have morals and refuse to rip people off.

Don't know what that bit means?? :D

the answer is to get the roof replaced if its required. average price around here 4-6k.
not to pay some dubious company thousands (or tens of thousands) to spray 50 quids worth of liquid onto the roof.
    Get some gorm.

Absolutely, sometimes people are paying MORE for this stuff than it would cost to re tile the whole roof!!
    Amazing.
  • My hubby and I signed a contract a few months ago to have our roof coated, now after reading reviews I am really worried!! We signed for the finance as it gives you a year after the work has been done to pay. Is there anyway out of this as we have already signed to have it done?????:(
