Can someone please explain my statement to me, before I make a fool out of myself ringing customer service? This is my second statement:

    21/6/09 royal bank uk 100.00
    21/6/09 cash advance fee 3.00
2/7/09 electronic payment thank you 103.14
    7/7/09 tesco store 32.74
    9/7/09 nails and things 30.25
    10/7/09 tesco insurance 93.71
    16/7/09 repayment option plan 3.38
16/7/09 cash interest at 3.44% per month 2.93

    and then on page 2:

purchase interest at 34.08 per year (no date, no amount)
cash interest at 41.2 per year (no date, no amount)

    The summary says:

    Balance from previous statement 103.14
    Total payments 103.14Credit
    Total Credits 0.00
    Total Transactions 266.01

    This month's statement balance 266.01

Now that doesn't add up to me. I get it that I owed, and paid, 103.14 last month, and have made transactions of 163.01 this month. So how come I owe 266.01?

I'd be grateful if someone could have a look for me, and I'd be happy to be corrected.

    Thanks :-)

Maybe the payment of £103.14 was applied before the statement date so its included in the current statement.

So long as your balance shows a debit of £163.01 that is right...... If not, then the payment went on after the statement was produced which would also account for the higher balance, even though its not right on the statement....... ring automated number and see for yourself (0870 8507755) opt 2.

Look at page 1 top left and see the credit available, deduct this from the credit limit and what is left? Thats how to work out the exact balance owing.

    Failing that ring them!

Thanks for the speedy reply. No, the balance shows at 266.01. My credit limit is 500, and available credit 233. I just don't get it, and I'm sure they'll babmboozle me when I ring up! I know I need to, and Iwill when they open. I rang the number and they told me the same figure - 233 available, and balance 266.01.

Ok, so it looks like the original payment did not go through - how did you pay it? I'd be chasing that, it suggests that it was never received but then you'd also have a late payment fee due out for missed payment......

I'd be ringing them later and speaking to them direct. Thing is, assume you paid after the statement was printed this would explain it all. However the automated system is accurate and so it suggests something went astray with that payment.

I'd be looking into that first, but also ring Vanquis and check this out. How did you make the payment and more importantly when did you make it?

That would make sense, you're right (but there should be a late fee if that was the case). I've just checked my online banking, though, and it was paid through the bank (online banking, not DD) on 2/7/09.

Im ringing now, and will update you. Thanks again.

It all makes sense (I think). The first 100 on that list was AFTER the last statement, which was for 103.14. It's very unclear on first reading, and especially so if you don't happen to have the previous statemnt to hand!

    Thanks so much for replying.
