This depends on your bill (statement) date.
I don't have this card, but your question sort of implies that this date is the same for all Vanquis cardholders and is a common knowledge.
  • I got my statement today but I just wondered if I added my food shopping on would it affect when I pay my balance from this current bill?

It dosn't matter when you received it. What matters is the day it was issued.
All purchases made after the last bill, but before the next bill affect only the next bill.
  • Okay then thanks for clearing that up

Hello. Just a word of warning about Vanquis. I have had this card a few years. It repaired my credit record and I have gone on to get cards at o% on balance transfers no problem.

I only use the Vanquis a few times each year. I owed £11 was due to pay £11 by 7th March which arrived with them on time, however on the same date they tried to take £5 by Direct Debit and then 2 days later £5 is credited back as payment reversal, then a £12 fee added as unpaid item fee.

The bank account they attempted the DD from was closed last year. I phoned and asked for the £12 back and have been refused twice. It has now gone to a third department to be looked at.

Each month I get a text from them telling me to pay £x by the due date and all my statements on EVanquis mention nothing about a Direct Debit being set up. They simply say pay £x by the due date.

Vanquis seem to think the £12 is justified and that I am in the wrong here. I did give the Financial Ombudsman a call who say in their opinion I have a good chance of obtaining a refund but have to wait on the final response from Vanquis before they get involved. Vanquis have to pay £500 or so if I go to the FOS. I don't need to pay anything.

They did help me obtain a decent credit score but their customer service is awful with them all saying they are not authorised to refund £12.

Some credit card companies will reduce the DD or not take it at all if an additional payment is made, others won't. It varies. And a DD typically takes three days to go through the system, so the processing of it would have already began when you made the payment.

Whether Vanquis gave you notice, as required by the DD Guarantee, is questionable.

    http://www.directdebit.co.uk/DirectDebitExplained/Pages/DirectDebitGuarantee.aspx:
If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit the organisation will notify you (normally 10 working days) in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request the organisation to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request

    [...]

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify the organisation.

Telling you when they need to receive payment by is not (quite) the same as notifying you when and for how much a DD will be taken.

I suppose you could also argue that by closing your bank account you also cancelled the Direct Debit.

Not sure you could make either of these arguments fly, though. Especially the second one.

If I were you I'd write to them, explaining the situation. A letter usually elicits a more sensible response.

Well, I got a lovely Gold card today without the Vanquis logo.. That and the free phone number are the only changes in this 'upgrade'! I very rarely spend on this card, and despite that, they upped my limit to £1500. The one good thing about Vanquis is the membership to Experian for £6.99 per month. You also get access to your Equifax file, so this is well worth it imo.

Sounds like an absolute bargain for someone who constantly frets about their not-so-important Experian Credit Score and wants to see an up-to-date copy of their credit report more than forty times a year.

However, bearing in mind your Experian Credit Score is next to meaningless and lenders only usually update credit reports once a month, you could view your Experian and Equifax reports every month for £2 a pop and still have change.

This information does not add up with my experience.

    1) I got my 'gold' card a couple of months ago and it says VANQUIS BANK very clearly in the top right of the card.

    2) Don't they only issue the gold card to accounts on the 2.5k/3k limit, not £750 going up to £1.5k?

    3) What is this about cheap/free Experian/Equifax access? I have never heard anything about this and I have been a user of their card for about 5 years and I read all the threads on here?

Is this an early april fools or do you have a completely different and special version of the vanquis card to the rest of us? :o
