  • Statement arrived!

    Balance carried forward £185.99
    Credit limit £250.00
    Available to spend £64.01
Next statement date 07 Nov 12
Payment due date 01 Nov 12
    Minimum payment £8.36

Now I've a few questions... I set up a direct debit, for full amount, over the phone when I applied for Vanquis, all bankwire details given... then I tried to pay with direct debit from their website... click on direct debit and then on set up direct debit... but it was not the right procedure, in fact I set up again my Direct Debit...

How can I pay this debit? Is there on the website a section to procced with this payment or I have to make a balance transfer from my Bank account to Vanquis manually? I just want to be sure that this amount will be payed in full by the 1st of November. How can I double check?

The next question is... When the balance will come back to £250? Statement is arrived but it is still £185.99...

Sorry if my questions can appear as stupid ones... but I'm totally unexpert... it's a little bit different here in UK...

you should ring vanquis if your having isssues paying this bill so they can help you set up your direct debit for the first time.

you can pay on phone or on the site with a debit card, or you can do an electronic payment (thats what i do) BUT you need to allow 3 or so WORKING days before the payment will appear on the vanquis account.

your balance will return to 250 once they receive your payment at vaquis, the available balance will only ever be the remaineder of your credit limit minus any current and uncleared charges.

also if you 0 your balance before your statement date as i did this week, any further charges before the statement date will be added to the current month i.e i charged 7.50 to my card and although the balance is 0 the available shows the charge already (i have now cleared this and wont charge anything else until after 18th my statement date.

I am absolutely over the moon.

Almost 8 months ago to the day, I applied for and got a Vanquis card.

Now today, I applied for a Bank of Scotland card and to my amazement, accepted, with an estimated credit limit of £2550. I have to sign the posted paperwork and according to them that'll be me sorted with a card.

I'm happy that it's only taken me 8 months, coming from virtually no credit history and not being on the electoral roll, to here where I have finally been accepted into mainstream.
    Oh, you wee bazza!
  • Im really not a fan of Vanquis. Ive had the card for about 7-8 months and i dont pay the balance each month, in fact i have about £300 on it now which is really stupid given the interest is 34%!

They have offered me an increase in my limit though. should i take this? Will it improve my score?

Carring a balance of £300 on a Vanquis card from one month to the next suggests you're struggling.

In this thread you suggest you're carrying another £300 on a Capital One card, have three overdrafts totalling £3,500, have missed at least one non-card payment and have an arrangement to pay agreement set up for one of your overdrafts.

Maybe I've misunderstood. If not, I think more credit is the last thing you need. It certainly won't make your credit report look more rosy.

Congratulations. Further proof that vanquis does work and is a good solution to credit building when used correctly.

Further proof of how not to use vanquis!

No, dont take the increase, you cant pay off what is on there already so what good will more debt at 34% APR do?!

    http://www.vanquis.co.uk/credit-cards/terms-and-conditions:

"Tier D2) Purchase/Balance Transfer annual rate 39.94%, Cheque annual rate 49.94%, Cash annual rate 58.95%?"

Well, that's what the calculator here suggests.
  • I spent last night pretty much reading this thread in it's entirety! It's quite heartening to see how some have managed to improve their credit rating so much with this card.

I was approved for one yesterday and a Capital One Secured card (need to pay £49)

I intend to do as some others have, put my normal petrol or weekly shop on the card then pay it off out of my bank balance. I've learned the hard way and certainly don't plan to run up a card that has 54% APR

Even though my debts have fallen off the credit rating - I assume they have, it's been 7 years and I have never been accepted for anything before... they are still ongoing and I am still in agreement with the companies to pay them off for a very small fee a month - I was wondering if like others, if I stick to this rigidly for 2-3 years whether the 'normal' credit providers would still take me on even if I still owe big money to companies like lloyds and egg (£10k) I wish I'd just gone bankrupt 6 years ago, but I was young and stupid! Does anybody know if these outstanding debts will affect my future credit score now I'm trying to get back on the ladder?

    Thanks in advance.
