The whole point of having a Vanquis is to build your credit. Why be silly enough to carry a balance of £2k on a high interest card. If you don't have the cash to pay for something, don't buy it. Simple as.
Run the Vanquis to get your green ticks then go Mainstream.:smileyheaMarried on 20/07/2012! :smileyhea

I'm quite surprised at the number of people slating the Vanquis card.
I'm just a week away from my 3rd statement and have been using the card pretty much for everything possible with the exception of petrol which goes on my Barclaycard (had it since I was 17...yes, I did say 17!). I pay off the statement balance in full every month.
I think the card is great - and contrary to what has been said I don't think they try to "hide" their APR. It tells you clearly what your APR is on you wecome letter and I think on the phonecall you have with them. To be quite honest, anyone applying for a Vanquis card knows the purpose of the card and should be well aware of the APR as it's well publicised.
And despite another comment - I have numerous times my Vanquis credit limit in cash savings. Having and using the card is building my credit profile and hasn't cost me a penny (and will never cost me a penny)...in fact - I was paid £25 for appplying through a cashback site. So why wouldn't I use it while it provides s75 protection for free?!
Ok...rant over!0 -
lvm ????????????????? who was refering to you ?????
i dont think the post is refered to any one user on here it was a general post
we are all entitled to our opinions and as a former vanquis card holder I'm entitled to mine and i was trying to give people on here my experience of the card useI am NOT a mortgage advisor nor a professional in any debt related matters my replies to posts reflect my personal view only and experience in life time situations that may or may not be of any use to you if you need advice speak to a professional0 -
I agree, if used properly, a vanquis card is the same as any other, except maybe things like balance transfer and 0% offers.
I always squirm though when I hear of the sales pressure for cash advances at four squillion %"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -

I never said anyone was referring to me.
And in your previous post you state that Vanquis cards are only for those with previous financial problems...actually, some people with no problems but need to build their credit profile go for these cards as well.
You also say that people who use them don't have wads of cash - actually, I do but advantages of using even a Vanquis card outweigh that of using cash.
And as for Vanquis trying to get everyone in debt and keeping them there - They offer people credit based on the perceived ability to maintain agreed payments. The CC holder is aware of the APR and if they choose to do something stupid with the card, that's their problem. Vanquis is a business and is perfectly entitled to set it's limits/rules.
Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but you seem to be providing information which is clearly incorrect.0 -

hmmmmm whatever so on your monthy statement it cleary states that you apr online ?????? no it does not you have to ask for it
if you get behind with payments then they reserve the right to fluctuate your apr with 2 months notice this can move from 39.99 to apr of 69.99
if you want to promote vanquis then fine
but what I'm telling people is if you want to carry a balance on this card and have no discipline as to credit cards then this is not the credit card for them
but the majority of people applying for a vanquis card will have adverse information on there credit file as this card is sold as an adverse card card as most main stream card providers refer you to either Vanquis , aqua , capital one classic , Granite( vanquis) ,Barclaycard Initial , if your credit score is not high enough for mainstream
Vanquis do not do balance transfers so you can pay it off from mainstream cards ? why ???? hmmm i wonder
Vanquis sometimes offer you a cash advance on the day of opening why ?????? i wonder ?
Vanquis have one of the rudest customer service experience you will ever try ....
nuff said from me on thisI am NOT a mortgage advisor nor a professional in any debt related matters my replies to posts reflect my personal view only and experience in life time situations that may or may not be of any use to you if you need advice speak to a professional0 -

I didn't say it did - it does however give you your APR in the welcome letter and whilst on the phone. You shouldn't need monthly reminders of APRs.if you get behind with payments then they reserve the right to fluctuate your apr with 2 months notice this can move from 39.99 to apr of 69.99
Without reading the T&Cs, I will assume this is in them! With them having more generally risky customers, they need to have higher APRs to cope with the bad debt.if you want to promote vanquis then fine
I'm not promoting them but as previous posters have said, if they're used correctly they do a good job and can help you.but what I'm telling people is if you want to carry a balance on this card and have no discipline as to credit cards then this is not the credit card for them

Haven't needed to speak to CS so wouldn't know.
Vanquis is a busines whose main aim is to make money so of course they're going to offer cash advances etc. I can't imagine them saying "that's ok, you were bankrupt last week but here's a 0% purchases and BT card for 12 months and here's £500 we'll transfer to you with only a £3 fee.0 -
I smell some Vanquis staff posting in this thread.
I had a Gold card for a number of years with a £3k limit and was paying £200 per month with only a few £ actually coming off my outstanding balance. I managed to get a mainstream card and it was near impossible to transfer the balance especially to keep the initial 0% on my new card.
Eventually came to pay it off and was shocked to still incur charges for “backdated” cash interest?
It’s easy as a former customer to slag them off but at the time they helped me out of a corner and assisted in me rebuilding my credit rating so for that I am thankful. Anyone who doesn’t know the APR on cash/goods is either blind or stupid as it’s clearly shown on their statements and in their online account.
What it boils down to is you know what you’re getting into when you apply for their services.0 -

Perhaps you need to blow your nose. Not everyone who refuses to join the sheep and slag off a company works for them.
There used to be someone here who was a regular poster to Vanquis threads and talked up the company. He was so anal about his own Vanquis account that he would rush home after every purchase he put on his card and immediately pay it off.
Of course the day came when he made a large purchase and couldn't pay it off, so had to carry a balance forward which attracted interest. Funny how we haven't heard from him since.
He would probably have made your Vanquis employee detecting nose twitch. But I'd be surprised if he worked for them. I think that, like others, he was simply grateful to a company that gave him a credit card when others wouldn't.0
