Hi All,
I made an application, got the "7 to 10 days" message, and called up today for an update on the application, and was told that I needed to provide an original bank statment or utility bill with my address on it.
Does anyone know how likely it is I'll be accepted once they've seen the statement/bill? I'm not too keen on sending either out, especially if it's just going to lead to a decline.
If it helps, I checked my credit report, and can see Vanquis have done a check.0 -
They accepted me after I had sent them mine. They do send them straight back to you too.0

Just to update, despite paying them 2 days late, they still gave me the limit increase to £1750.0

 Pleased to hear that
Do try though to spend a minute a day checking your account online.

I have had my vanquis card for 5/6 months and have always paid in full, today i checked both my equifax and experian report to find no trace of it anywhere. There is no credit search which i would have expected to get the card in the first place and no payments show up. But strangely there is a search on there dating 25/8/11.0

Well, ironically think I got the final increase to £3000, think that's the max with them, according to their literature. But my balnce is £1514 and interest at £59 a month, it's time to same bye.
Got a mainstream card a Halifax Clarity at a lovely apr! But when Halifax tried to the balance transfer it just wouldn't go throught:mad:
Vanquis don't do it! So had to get a bank loan from Halifax, still lots cheaper than the Vanquis apr. But at the same time, having had the V card over 2 years it has helped my credit files. Only sub-prime card held.
I have the horrors thinking if I used up the full £3000 on offer it'd be over £100 a month in interest..............0 -
Ive spent the last few days reading through most of the thread, just wanted to say thanks for the huge amount of info off everyone!
We went BR in june 2008 and were discharged less than a year later, ive since applied for a Vanquis but maybe it was too soon after BR, i applied last weekend again, got my acceptance call on the Mon or Tues after the message at the end of application was something along the lines of 'we need to call you to clarify some details'. I have a £500 limit which i was surprised at, expected the very smallest limit, and my card came on Saturday, just waiting for PIN.
I'm really pleased that Vanquis have given me a chance, and it seems from what i've read most people are generally satisfied with them so i feel better about that.
I too will be using my card for the groceries and minor purchases and paying off in full, im hoping this is going to be a good step towards repairing my credit files. However, i take it everything else i am doing is paying off too if they have accepted me, my credit rating is (very) slowly improving?
It still feels so weird having a credit card, i think im a bit scared to use it! can't quite get out of the 'if i don't have it i don't spend it' mentality, but i guess from what ive read if i don't use it i won't be making headway with improving my rating?
One thing for certain, i won't make the same mistakes i have in the past, another couple of years of doing things sensibly and carefully and maybe i can get a contract mobile phone lol, save some pennies that way!
Thanks again0 -
I had a 3k limit and i was at balance of £2.2k minimum payment was £150 with interest at £120 a month a gold account they call you lol
I cant warn you people enough
they are clever at hiding their apr you wont find it on your online statement its got very basic info
they will also get their telesales people ringing you blaggin you to take cash advance or a savings pack for 59.99
dont do it..... get it cut up you will thank me in the long run ..even a nice £500 limit will be waxed a christmas you know it willI am NOT a mortgage advisor nor a professional in any debt related matters my replies to posts reflect my personal view only and experience in life time situations that may or may not be of any use to you if you need advice speak to a professional0 -
Vanquis is the credit card version of the payday loan, fine if you use (or need to use) them properly, as dangerous as poking an angry cobra with a stick if used like a normal card.
I've said it before, why anyone would choose to carry a rolling balance at 69.9% is a mystery."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
each person has there own reason for using VANQUIS..
I've had mine for 16 months now and have a limit of £1750 and at a guess have paid less than £20 interest since having the card.
I tend to use it just after statement date for petrol and internet shopping and will use it in a day or so time as my car tax is due.
I will then pay at least 75% back onto the card before my statement is produced.
So whilst i would say it would be a little mad to carry a rolling high balance and interest of £50+ a month.
Each to their own
