As yet I'm still waiting for an increase from £250 however my interest rate has dropped for 'being a good customer!'
I have recently been accepted for a Capital One card. I had to send 2 forms of ID, got accepted and run further checks and the account was opened today! Not sure on card type or limit yet as I can't actually remember what I went for in the application progress.
Again I was pretty sure Capital One wouldn't accept me but they have! I'm just building up a history at the moment until I get gain a good enough status to get a lower APR card.
Sadly because of the fact my credit is just run of the mill (due to having limited amount of credit) I'm just grateful for any credit card!
Hope this helps0 -

Do you pay your card in full each month, or is it maxed out all the time. Have you ever missed payments, or gone over your limit. I'm surprised from other threads that you have not had a increase yet.0 -
Is there any point to me applying for Vanquis just after being discharged from a trust deed (scottish IVA)? I get discharged next april and am going on holiday in July so was going to try for Vanquis just after I get my discharge through. I don't want to apply if I'm likely to be declined.
Apply for one. I think it was my third try over 18 months that I got mine. I'm a discharged bankrupt. My credit file shows that also it shows loads of old defaults. Also outsanding balances which I do not owe to the tune of over 30k. Just had one marked satisfied. :j
At worse they can decline you. But unless you try you will not know. Go for it and see what happens.
Just don't take the P*** out of vanquis if they let you have one. Don't worry about the high APR, it's only high if you spend more than you can afford to pay back each month.
BTW, I remember a many years ago. I was in a store and they asked if I wanted a store card. I said yes, and I queued at customer services within the store, I was not working at the time, and was on about £50 a week. The guy infront was applying also. I heard him state his job title and salary. (Pilot) over £120k a year) he was DECLINED the store card. He only wanted it to get a 20% discount on what he was buying, he was going to pay by cash, but could only have the discount if he got the card. He was not amused when he left the store, infact he didn't even bother buying the goods, he told the cashier ? to stick it back on the shelf. (£2k worth of electricals)
I was going to bottle out, being on £50 a week, I had no chance. But decided to carry on. In less than 5 mins, I was approved with a £3000 limit.
So you just never know, what the computer will say. If the computer says NO, try again in six months. You will get a card at some point.0 -
I totally agree with @ASL.
You can never be quite sure what the old PC will come back with. I nearly fell through my wooden floorboards when I opened Capital One's letter!
I have never gone to the limit, the most has been £210. I quite often pay it back in full but recently I have been paying half of the balance to show that I can make more than the min amount. I would like to think it will go up in time now that they have lowered my APR!0 -

My limits only £250, I've took it up to £240 in first week, paid in full, did same again, paid in full, a week after first statement, its nearly on £200, just paid in full again. EVERYTHING goes on my card. Even used it for a £1.05 transaction. Balance will be £0000 again when payment reaches them, then next week I take a weekend break, I'll use about £150 of it on petrol. I'm paying a payment 2 or 3 times a month. Hoping for a increase in a couple of months, but not sure if I will get one. My only other debt is a large provi loan, once thats paid, I' won't take anymore out. I love interest free credit, its beats the hell out of pawning a gold ring I have and paying 10% a month to get me to the next pay day. My vanquis, unless a emergency, I hope never to pay interest on.0 -
Yes that the idea.
I love the 56 days interest free!!!!
I was planning to ditch Vanquis in favour of my Capital One card but I think running the 2 accounts well can only help my corner.
Provi didn't approve me for a £100 loan! A couple of weeks later I applied at Capital and, well you know the rest!!
Last year I applied for an Aqua Mastercard just before Vanquis accepted me but sadly got told to try again in another 6 months! I forgotten about it until now!0 -

I'm paying off a 1k loan, only had it to improve my cra file. Love the zeros they are giving me, lots of interest, but a small price to pay for zeros. DONT CLOSE YOUR VANQUIS, what you could do is use it for food, petrol etc, and the other for online shopping. or vica versa. I wouldn't even close mine if I ended up with other cards in the future, lets say you save a bit, in a year you have a grand in the bank and a grand limit, use the card for a holiday, pay back in full when you return home. Or what ever. It would be mad to close it. Lets say you do, and regret it a week later, you may be declined when you re apply. For that or another card. Whats your cap one limit. ?? they are normaly very slow at increases.0 -
That's sound advice!
I'm unsure about the limit but I'm expecting a £200 limit. The PIN came today so I'm expecting the card in about a week or so.
I was accepted by letter with a credit agreement last week sometimes which I signed. Prior to this they requested 2 forms of ID confirming my full name and address. However on receipt of my signed agreement they advised me that they would now process it and continue 'cheeks' and to wait and hear from them within 7 working days. Less than the 7 day period (3 days actually) I was informed that the account was opened.
I do feel stupid sometimes talking to my friends about this as they all seem to have very good or excellent status' and don't seem to understand that getting accepted for a credit card, a catalogue or a contact mobile is a big deal to someone in my position. It's just I've never really needed credit and when I needed that's when I found out all about credit status', files, scores etc!
And I'm 29!!!!!! Doh!:rotfl:0 -
Sorry guys for going off topic!0
