Yep, mine came through yesterday. I also got a letter today telling me I've been upgraded to Gold Status. Gold status means a dedicated freephone number - 0800 0237 137 or 01634 789 544 (good number for mobile calls), but not much else...

Bet you can't wait to hit the shops and see the envy in other customer's eyes when you proffer your new gold card at the checkout. :rotfl:

The gold card is pointless. I got upgraded to it couple of months ago but I've yet to activate it.

All the numbers and dates will be exactly the same as your standard card. And my standard card still works. :D

I have not had a text message yet but logged onto E-Vanquis this morning to check my next payment date and it has been increased to the £1000 presume text message will arrive later today. Nice feeling like I said earlier I have no intention of using it but its nice to think things are moving in the right direction at least :)

Be careful with the gold card upgrade there are many posts on here from people who have been upgraded to the gold card and most of the time not only does it include an increase in credit limit but also in APR for some unknown reason....................

TBH, not really an issue for me as I clear my bill in full every month. Vanquis can raise or lower the APR as much as they like...;)

Lol, are you kidding? Despite vanquis' attempt to make me feel special I'm under no illusions; I'll save the celebrating until when I can get a mainstream credit card.:p

How to close your Vanquis account with the minimum cost:

If you have a balance on your card and phone them up to close your account and pay over the phone, invariably you will receive a statement containing residual interest (as documented by many posts on here) subsequent to the "closure".

This confuses and upsets people, especially as Vanquis don't generally spell this out for you, nor seem able to calculate a final figure for you to pay.

There is a simple solution to this, which will save you money :j.

If you are planning to clear your balance and close your account, wait for a statement to arrive, pay the exact balance on the statement and wait for it to clear. When you have your zero balance, phone them up and ask for your account to be closed. They'll put you on hold for a moment and then come back to say this has been done for you.

You will then receive a statement on the expected date. This will show that there is no balance, nothing to pay and no interest to be added.

I offer no guarantee with this, only that this method has worked for both myself and my partner.

Neither of us were billed for the expected residual interest (estimated at £35 for OH and £20 for myself).
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.
