Thanks Katie. I just wish I could get it all out my head!

I'm still feeling awful, had a good sleep but woke up choking on sick. This sometimes happens as I have stomach problems, but it's not a good way to wake up. Am going to IL's now so see you all later.

The conscious mind isn't switched on all the time?

Inj a word No. For starters its switched off whilst you are asleep but also it is easily distracted because it can only handle a few things at a time whereas your unconcious mind can handle millions of bits of info at a time. Your mind receives about 2 million bits of info a second but whilst the unconcious mind is ok with this the concious mind filters it down to just a few bits of information and this explains why different people see different things in the same situation. the depressed mind is just as logical as a normal mind but seeing things from a different viewpoint.

ah but don't dreams come from the unconcoius mind which if it's b&w why do I have such weird dreams. For example the other day I dreamt all my new work colleagues hated me, but it's exactly the opposite I had a problem last friday with the big boss and my colleagues where really all very supportive.
Well im not a dreams specialist but the unconcious doesnt really think it just acts so what you see is probably more pure thought and probably reflects your fears. Because the thought is not edited your mind appears to have jumped to the worst possible conclusion which of course rarely happens

Get well soon LM. Don't they call glandular fever the kissing disease or is that something else?
    Yup, that's GF!

I've been withdrawn and basically shut myself away from the rest of the world, but now I am determined to get better and my therapist has suggested that I start doing activities to learn to be around people, trouble is I don't know where to start and I don't have much money and I don't want to seem as if I'm not trying.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm feeling quite down and apprehensive about my next session, I feel as if I'm going to be told off for not making an effort.
To add to the suggestions you've already had, I've found a community choir good fun and because you are all singing together there's not a lot of time when you have to chat face to face.

Same would go for quite a few adult education classes, worth getting the prospectus from your local college or council. Although they can be pricey!

Walking's great, your local council might run Health Walks. See www.whi.org.uk if you'd like to find a local group.

thanks AB that makes good sense, my mind is fearing the worst (i.e. the dreams) as my despression was triggered by problems in my last job with certain colleagues bullying me, and I also suffered from bullying everyday of my school life.

hi all, hope everyone is ok this morning, had words with ian, and he has started to help out more, helped me clean daniels bedroom, and move furniture in joshua's. i think part of his reasoning is he is a single bloke in his own house, ands typically untidy, but i like to keep mine reasonable, and he thinks it can all be left til he is back at work, but if i did that, i wouldnt have free time to go to my craft groups, which then has a knock on effect on my mental health, stress etc.

anyway had a good day yesterday him being more understanding etc, lets see how it lasts before i have to remind him again lol

    hugs all

i'm so fed up of feeling this rubbish - crying for no reason

i woke up this morning, and because i've put on weight lately, i can't get any of my trousers done up, so im having to sit in pyjama trousers, so i can't even go out

i just hate everything about myself and my life. i;m sitting balling my eyes out, but i've got no-one to talk to. i don't know why i even bother pretending that everything will be ok...things just keep getting worse and worse for me, never better. I can't take anymore.

Im so sorry you are feeling so bad, Mezer. I can really relate to what you are saying. When I was at work 8 years ago I weighed 7st 4 - 7st 6. I know this doesn't sound much but Im 5ft tall and very petite. After leaving work 8 years ago and suffering badly with depression I weighed myself yesterday and I am 8st 11. Im horrified and feel really fat! Ive tried diets but its hard enough keeping my mental health together and trying not to drink too much alcohol without following a diet plan too! I hate trying clothes on in shops because all I see is fat arms and a horrible fat stomach.

Im glad you've made an appointment to see your doctor because, believe me, he/she can really help. Make sure you tell them everything and don't leave anything out. Eg. if you drink too much, smoke too much or have other issues, because this helps them to help you. If they prescribe anything for you make sure you know exactly what the medicine is for, what it will do and how long it will take to have affect. (The amount of times Ive left the doctors with a prescription and not really asked much about it and haven't understood why they've prescribed a certain medicine!:o )

Hang in there and come online to offload when you need to. Hugs. xxxxx

Singing is also great for getting those feel good chemicals going in the brain so it will have benefits for depression!
Same goes for walking or any type of exercise

    Really good suggestions Sue
