Vodafone ridiculous internet charge!

  • I do believe that if they don't catch him for another 2 years that he would no longer be liable to pay (I forget what the law is called).

    It's an if though!

If he wished to pursue this route, it is important that he doesn't contact them or acknowledge them or the debt in any way.

Chances are though, that if you haven't heard anything by now, they may have already written it off anyway.

No way would I pay them £2,000 for 2 months internet use though. They must be living in the land of the faries if they expect anyone to pay that! They deserve to get nothing for even asking for so much.
  • Sorry. I missed the bit about them contacting you.
  • You might also want to post in the debt free forum. Make sure you clearly spell out the issues and include details of other debts that you boyriend might have and hopefully someone may be able to offer constructive advice there.

In all these case there's always some kind of arrangement that can be made but you have to tackle them head on rather than ignoring them as they unfortunately won't go away.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the tip nathanhill69

Yeah we received a letter about a few weeks ago, I never knew about this until the letter is arrived. He said he never contacted them coz he has nothing to pay as he has no savings and on jsa allowance. I'm with o2 and they would contact me when I have spent a bit more out my allowance. I guess VF just doesn't care and want every penny they can scrape.

    hi

did you say his total bill comes to £2k or that the bill is £2k and now they want £1k interest on top of that? boy he must have really downloaded a lot for that. Non-inclusive data download has been around the £1 per meg for a while, but don't take that as gospel, his tariff might have been different.

Yes, talk to VF or get him to. They might not speak to you as you are not the account holder. the worst thing to do is ignore is as you have already been advised.

It is really important going forward that people read and really understand what they are signing up for before they sign on the dotted line. if in doubt, don't sign it until you've spoken to someone who is quite savvy about these types of things.

It stated in Vodafone website that 500mb per month is the limit. So it should be just around £1000 for 2 months bills. I am curious if the limit and rate was the same as 4 years ago.

It's not a case of caring jaycee, but as jon 01 has told you, with millions of customers it just isn't possible to sit and look at individual users usage. Jon is also right when he says it is the responsibility of the user themselves.

Have you or he made contact with them yet? do you have copies of these invoices so you can see the tariff he was on?

We haven't as we are thinking which would be best to do. He is thinking bring it to court, where I just want to pay it off. I will try my best to find that invoices as it was 4 years ago.

Please don't wait any longer, it won't do him any good whatsoever.

also if he is depressed, the feeling of situations being out of his control just will not help him. If you are serious about helping him, this does not limit your help to fishing in your purse. Advise him to tackle it not hide.

Ask them for copy invoices, they will gladly get them and it shows you are engaging with them not ignoring. Also ask them what the tariff was and the rates for net surfing. the more info you have the better.

Please do not hide or allow him to hide I should say as it will always be him they chase not you.

jaycee, it won't ever get to court. It's a payment issue, it'll go to the agency who will press him for payment (and their fee's). If you don't pay them they will just send in the bailiff.
I don't mean to harsh but if its got this far (and they know where he lives) he really need to start talking to them as soon as possible, like tomorrow.
If he wants you to talk to them for him just get him to call and go through the security steps and them tell them he want you to take it from there. Get through to the billing team, they should be able to help you. Its not in their interest to make thing worse for him, but you need to start taking action.

In what respect does it say that 500meg is the limit? If you are on a data bundle then once you have gone over that limit, you start to pay at whatever the tariff rate is. if he was on just a standard voice tariff without a data pack added, then would have had to pay for each and every meg downloaded.

You or he, really do need to find out what tariff he was on.
