Also, if he leaves it what does he think will happen to his credit file ?
Does he really not want to be able to get any credit for the next 7 years ??

I think he has learnt his lesson with credit, he hasn't use any credit card or applied any loan since he has been in those debt trouble
  • Is it me or is this thread some what confusing / doesn't add up.

    - 18 year old boyfriend / brother.
    - 4 year old contract (putting him at 14 years old)
    - Bill from 4 years ago or recent?

Ultimately if the data was used then it's a harsh life lesson to be learnt, although as someone has suggested you might get the bill reduced by speaking with Vodafone and seeing how much goodwill they might be willing to offer.

Ok, but what's he going to do for the next 7 years ?
He must have a default on his file now any way. What if he wants a mortgage or a car lone in 3 or 4 years ? He'll be screwed, one look at his file and it'll be an instant refusal. He need to get this sorted as soon as poss.

    Sorry it's my BOYFRIEND.
He was 18 when he first took out the contract. Now he is 22 years old.
The bill is 4 years ago and recently vodafone sent the letter regarding outstanding balance and DCA.
He is not working therefore no income but JSA allowance. The only way out now is I take out my saving to bail him out (again)

He really needs to speak with Vodafone ASAP and see if they can come to some arrangement / reduction as this has obviously dragged on for far too long a time. It's very admirable that you're willing to dip into your savings to help him out but think long and hard about this - he really needs to exhaust every possible avenue that may be available to him. I'd hate for you to bail him out and then carry a damaging deep resentment or even worse, what if he bails out on you in the future (obviously have no idea on your set-up etc.).

PS - whay are you looking into this and not your boyfriends as it's his mess.

    thanks nathanhill69,
He has a depression condition and all his debt problems are not helping too. So all I can do is to give him a hand i suppose.

You might also want to post in the debt free forum. Make sure you clearly spell out the issues and include details of other debts that you boyriend might have and hopefully someone may be able to offer constructive advice there.

In all these case there's always some kind of arrangement that can be made but you have to tackle them head on rather than ignoring them as they unfortunately won't go away.

    Good luck

    hi

did you say his total bill comes to £2k or that the bill is £2k and now they want £1k interest on top of that? boy he must have really downloaded a lot for that. Non-inclusive data download has been around the £1 per meg for a while, but don't take that as gospel, his tariff might have been different.

Yes, talk to VF or get him to. They might not speak to you as you are not the account holder. the worst thing to do is ignore is as you have already been advised.

It is really important going forward that people read and really understand what they are signing up for before they sign on the dotted line. if in doubt, don't sign it until you've spoken to someone who is quite savvy about these types of things.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j
