    More news:

Exam papers stuck in post strike

Apparantly results could be delayed because exam papers are stuck in the sorting office!

Big round of applause for the striking staff of Royal Mail

    That was an interesting article:

About 30,000 papers were marked and checked and 250 are stranded.

BBC Northern Ireland education correspondent Maggie Taggart said while the papers have not arrived with the exams board the marks have been sent by other methods.

"Examiners were told not to send papers by post but some did and that's where the problem lies," she said.

I think you will find they are two different threads as that one is talking about valentine's day and the postal strike. :)

ITV said this afternoon but who knows?? they said there was 1 million pieces of undelivered mail but thats way wrong according to the BBC

Striking Belfast postal workers have called an end to more than two weeks of unofficial industrial action.
The Communication Workers Union confirmed its members had voted to return to work after an agreement was reached with Royal Mail.

Royal Mail said seven million items had built up in the post  and "immeasurable damage" to the business had resulted.

A spokesperson for the union said its members regretted the inconvenience the strike had caused to the public.

Union members called off the strike after its members voted to accept the company's proposals.

About 200 strikers discussed the offer at Transport House in Belfast on Friday.

No, compensation was indeed already discussed exactly a week ago on the other thread, when I told people about Postwatch ruling. :-)

By the way, someone enquired about compensation for businesses but it's worth pointing out that everyone, even a normal non-business customer sending/receiving a letter, is entitled to make claims if their mail is late enough (which I'm sure most of ours would be by now).

As I said before, you can get up to £10 per letter.

Get what's rightfully yours, folks! Just keep the postmarked envelope and bring it to the post office to make a claim.

Royal Mail have cost me money and I'm cross!

I sent my credit card payment off as usual to clear the balance at the beginning of the strike. It never occurred to me that it wouldn't get there. The strike went on and the penny dropped.......did my payment get there?.......quick phone call to check........

    No...... the cheque hadn't arrived!

So late credit card payment is £25. After a long explanation the nice credit card person agrees to split the difference so I only owe £12.50 thanks to the strike. I think he was trying to cheer me up and I was supposed to smile at this point.....I tried, but I couldn't quite manage it. :(

But the nice credit card person also tells me that now that I have paid by another method it would be wise to cancel the cheque I've sent.

So I call the bank and cancel the original cheque......guess what? Another charge for cancelling the cheque, this time £10.00

So I'm £22.50 out of pocket.....it would have been £35.00 if it wasn't for the nice credit card bloke. There must be many others in the same position.

Maybe they are nicer people than I am, but I am mad as hell!
