I had a stage where for 2 weeks I couldn't send faster payments. I left it a week and now all seems to be working again!

I transferred £10 from my BoS account to my partner's FP-enabled LTSB account to test that it worked - no problem. Next day I tried to transfer £690 but it sent it by pack mule (I knew nothing of limits, of course). Rang up BoS to find out why and they told me it was an anti-fraud measure and that it was applied randomly to such transactions. Didn't make sense to me, since the paper-trail would remain the same either way; perhaps it is to prevent HBoS being 'northern rocked' overnight. Either way, the money has vanished from my account, not yet appeared in the destination one, and is presumably earning somebody's bonus in the meantime. Good job I'm not a cynic.

there are some accounts that I cant for some reason send fast payments to ,HMRC being one of them.

Their electronic payments are serviced by that Dickensian institute the Bank of England. Confronted by a need to upgrade a number of their services to clients (in partic Govt Depts) .... BofE decided to withdraw from such services (in 2004 !!). For some reason it's taking HMRC close to 5 years to make a transition - they recently announced services are moving to RBS and Citi.

Just made 2 x £500 payments from Halifax to Tesco. Very tempted to make a third £500 payment but I don't think I'll risk it.

Why not? It tells you before you submit whether it's going as FP or not.

Why not? It tells you whether it is going to be sent as FP beforehand.

The last time I tried to make a third FP payment, it was rejected and I received an instant phone call from the Halifax security department.
