No way is it £300 - that's the price of a first class open return.
Somehow I think you are looking it up wrong.
A buy on the day super off peak return is £95 - less via Birmingham.
Advance singles start at just under £30
All the above from Reading0 -
QueenBee, you really must try harder.
It took me all of two minutes to find that I can buy a Advance Single from Blox to Durham for £20.50, leaving Bloxwich at 12:32 on 24 Feb. (You dont say when you want to travel).
A walk up return can be had for £82.50.
Btw, welcome to the forum.
Have you looked at split ticketting?
sorry should have said when we want to travel- hopefully 4th April returning 20th April. It's 2 adults with 1 RC (16-25). The cheapest advance I found for those dates was £53.10 each way for both of us!
I've tried splitting at each station between Birmingham and Durham, but no luck!0 -
I've booked a month in advance on National Express East Coast Mainline from York to London and gone there and back for less than £20 with a railcard. Admittedly these were at funny times (3.35 on Friday train from York to London and 5.55 on Sunday train from London to York) but it's definitely doable. Could have done it for £14 the day before if I hadn't been sensible and waited to get my student loan...
The York Press quite frequently do a voucher for £5 London to York/Leeds tickets, it's worth checking here regularly to see when they're doing them: www.thepress.co.uk"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
I have just visited one site where I found a lots information about Shower Enclosures
in very simple wording. If you want more information about these just visit that visit http://www.diamonfusion.com/en/products/improves.html0 -

So how do you split tickets with a shower enclosure Mr/Ms spammer?
Lovely visions of shooting up the East Coast Mainline in one:rotfl:0 -

Cross Country don't seem to have many bargains these days
It might be worth split ticketing at Peterborough - a slightly long way round but NXEC can be cheap on the right days/times. Only a guess - but maybe worth you trying.
Or even via Manchester - even wilder guess.0 -

Hi Skintchick, I discovered a network railcard I think it is called, it is a discount card for travel in the south east and Reading should be covered it means a third off the price, I hope this helps.
Also, tried to do London to Maccesfield for a Sat and the prices were silly. My nearest mainline is Watford Junction and the price was MORE to go from here so I have to go into London to come past my local station for a cheaper price.
I tried to be clever and called Virgin to see if it was stopping but it is not on the way out but it should on the way back, but i will check again the day before.
I was amused to find that the price I was staring at on my screen the Virgin operator was saying was not available but she could offer me one £13 more.
I ignored her and proceeded to purchase the one online but still am paying £40 return being £32 out and £8 return for the day.
Hope this helps0 -
Apologies if this has been picked up elsewhere...
I've noticed that if you use Virgin Trains website for booking a ticket solely on a Virgin Trains service (eg Stoke or Manchester to London) they give you better options on off-peak singles.
For example where you can find an advance ticket for the outward journey but only an Off-Peak single for the return this will be priced at around half the off-peak return fare rather than the full single price (often almost as much as a return) as quoted on National Rail Enquiries.0
