Orchid V4, V4+ Programing Tool Support

Courtesy of CWClient and an Orchid v4+ dialer, the HEINZ table, for the two months its been in operation, has made me gratifying savings.:T
In anticipation of the loss of the server to which were saved edits to the program made in CWClient and from which was downloaded the edited program when the dialer was 'forced home', I tried using the handset to manually reprogram temporarily the nightime carrier from Primus to 18185 - more expensive but easy to check that an edit had gone through (by listening for the 18185's "0p per minute").
Several further attempts at reprogramming in this way (ie using the handset) were ignored by the Dialer AND with the first of them the Dialer baulked at being reprogrammed using CWClient:eek:. The edits could be saved, but not downloaded (till Toby kindly resorted to some kind of refresh of something).
Anyway, with several further attempts to reprogram using the handset being ignored by the Dialer (and leaving me needing further intervention by Toby to 'unlock' the dialer for programming by CWClient) and with the March daylight saving adjustment in the offing I resorted to Kevin's neat program.
As my Thinkpad T43's internal modem is on COM 4, I reconfigured the spreadsheet to COM 4. I then wired the modem to the Orchid v4+ dialer in conformity with Kevin's 'green' diagram.
When I then [1] change the cell for the routing of local calls in Kevin's routing table from Nighttime on Primus to Nighttime on 18185 (ie from a 0 (for Primus) to a 1 (for 18185)) then [2] select the cell and then [3] click the "Dial single table entry" button I'm rewarded with the sound of the appropriate tones but the LED on the Dialer does not light at all and when I test for the change in the routing to 18185 by making a local call there is no "0P per minute" message from 1818.
In short I seem to have no means of programming the dialer. I'd be most grateful for anyone's thoughts as to what I might be missing.0 -
The box might be in 'managed' mode which will stop it being programmed from the handset.
You should be able to set it to unmanged using the advanced tab on my spreadsheet - click advanced, select 'Set Unit Non Managed' and unselect everything else and go for it
Then try your test case again0 -
Thank you Kevin. I selected 'Set Unit Non Managed' unselected everything else and clicked 'Write Changes' to get an 'All Done'. I then clicked 'Cancel' to get back to the main program. After selecting the cell I clicked the 'Dial Single Table Entry' button to write the change from 0 to 1 to the Non Managed Dialer. There was no lighting of the LED during any of this. I then dialled my test case. The LED lit up, but alas no joy from 18185.0

Thanks Kevin - another successful customer for your automated excel sheet. Worked first time on my laptop with built in modem.
I had considered writing a VB program to do this, but using VB macros inside excel is an excellent idea.0 -

The fact you get no light when running the update from the spreadsheet suggests that your modem is not talking to it - the light should come on as soon as the modem goes off hook.
first off, try plugging the modem into the same hole that your 'phone is currently in, see if that makes a difference. If not I would try & get a new cable for the modem & try that. Since you are hearing the modem tones, the spreadsheet is doing its stuff, so the problem either lies in the cable to the V4, the connection method or in the V4 itself.

I have had a brief play with the Novel open office - it does not support the macros I use - the key one that talks to the modem is quite low level so I am not overly surprised - when I have a bit of free time I will take a harder look and see if there is anything that can be done, a free solution would be rather cool.

Can I ask you what laptop/modem you used, then I can add it to the list of successes to guide other people - thanks.0 -

What is the difference between managed and non-managed mode? I have set mine to non-managed and it all seems to be working.

Sorry, Kevin, just spotted your message further up the thread. Managed means that the unit cannot be programmed via the handset. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Some of you will have found the Excel spreadsheet that I wrote to re-program the Orchid V4 series boxes now that the suppliers are pulling out of the UK market. This thread is to let me provide support for it.
Kevin,
An excellent utility, I could never get my head around CWClient but understand this much better.
Can you explain how the translate and special options work, I think I understand the rest.
