Have used an Orchid dialler for years but not tried re-programming it since Orchid stopped their server support. Have just looked at the Excel spreadsheet (is V1.9 the latest?) and tried running it in OpenOffice 3.3 with my external Zoom USB modem on COM4 but nothing happens. I've enabled Macros to run (security options) but still no command strings get sent to my modem. Clicking on any of the buttons ao the top of the sheet does nothing at all. Has anybody got the spreadsheet to work with OpenOffice? Am I missing something here? I'd really like to be able to tweak my dialer without having to use a direct connected phone like I do now to reset the time every now and again.

I think Kevin's spreadsheet only works with Microsoft Excel.

If you KNOW the exact details of your current program precisely (i.e. you have a printout of it from the CW Client days), you could just use a DTMF phone to update Carrier or Routing codes as necessary.

Manual entry (I find a DECT cordless phone's pre-dial facility makes it easy) can be used to overwrite entries after you have worked out the necessary strings using Kevin's spreadsheet.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks Heinz - seems a pity but I had a feeling that I might have to do that because I don't have Microsoft Excel installed and don't want to install it just to run one spreadsheet. I do have the original config information that Orchid sent me when they ceased their server support so I can refer to that.

OK, so I have now changed my BT service to Unlimited Anytime which includes 200 free texts a month. Since I have a BT Paragon 500 phone which supports SMS I thought I'd take advantage of the free texts and tried it out. It works fine but only if I don't connect the phone via the V4 dialer so I need to know what changes to make in the dialer config. The SMS provider number is 1470P17094009 (1470, pause, 17094009) so since 1470 is already configured as a "special" number in routing code table location 10 using *###1470#6000#10# I thought that if I added the 17094009 as an "Allowed" number using *###17094009#3000#19# into my routing code table at location 19 it might work but sadly no. Has anybody figured out how to use BT Text via the V4 dialer and can shed any light on what I need to do? I believe that the V4+ dialer had to be modified but mine is a standard V4.

    Hello

I have two Orchid diallers that are free to a good home. One is the V4 Plus mains-backup one - I can't find the mains adaptor at the moment, but if I do you can have that as well. The other has the model number "DSD4" on the back - this is not a mains-backup model, but if I recall correctly it is the standard V4. I don't have any instructions for either unit.

If you would like either of them, please PM me with your postal address.

Don't you just want the V4 to ignore whatever you dial when texting? If so, simply prefixing with 121 will achieve that.

    EDIT 5.22pm 11-12-11

I have to say I have no experience of texting from a landline and the above suggestion was a bit of an angels dancing on the head of a pin longshot. Glad it worked!

Brilliant! - I added 121 to the front of the provider sending number in the phone and it worked a treat as I already had 121 in my routing table - thanks Heinz. Now all I have to do is get BT to fix a receiving issue. BT Text thinks my line doesn't have Caller ID so dumps inbound SMS messages to 1571 but I do have Caller ID as part of BT Privacy at Home and it's working fine.

Now sorted - I have two identical SMS enabled phones connected and having both enabled to receive seemed to upset BT Text. Nobbled the receive number on one of them and now everything is working perfectly. Can send from either phone but inbound SMS will only go to the one that has the correct receive number programmed into it.

I recently changed my BT package so I don't need any landline calls routed at any time so I updated my Routing Code Table accordingly. All seemed OK except that my wife called a local number (starts with an 8) without adding the STD code and that got the STD code added by the dialer and then routed to Call1899. I updated my Routing Code Table so that local calls were not routed any more using *###*2*9#4000#01# but they still seem to be routed to call1899 which is Carrier code 3 in my Carrier Code Table. As far as I'm aware I don't have any other entries in my routing code table for local numbers atarting with anythign from 2 to 9, in fact I even added another entry *###*2*9#4000#21# (location 21 was unused as far as I know) in case there was one but local calls without the STD code still get routed.
Any ideas how I can find out why ? I've told my wife to always add the STD code for ALL calls but I'd still like to know why the dialer wants to route local calls made without an STD code when it shouldn't.

Perhaps your home STD code is not entered correctly in cell D29 (if you use Kevin's spreadsheet).

    Anyway, to overwrite that cell (I have assumed your STD code is 01234 here, change that as necessary), key * * * 0 1 2 3 4 * 4

I think my local STD code was stored OK as it was added to a local number that then got routed. I did try your suggestion of re-programming it again but it didn't make any difference. Calling any local number without the STD code still gets routed for some reason. I'm wondering if my Routing Code Table or Carrier Code Table has got corrupted somehow yet other routing (calls to mobiles, 121 prefix, etc) seem to route OK so I'm reluctant to flush everything and start again unless I really have to. Always using an STD code gets round the issue but being a retired IT support person, I just don't like unexplained bugs!!!
