Ryanair may charge for toilet use on planes
1 hour 2 mins agoIrish carrier Ryanair, Europe's largest budget airline, might start charging passengers for using the toilet while flying, chief executive Michael O'Leary said on Friday. Skip related content
"One thing we have looked at in the past and are looking at again is the possibility of maybe putting a coin slot on the toilet door so that people might actually have to spend a pound to spend a penny in future," he told BBC television.
He said this would not inconvenience passengers travelling without cash. "I don't think there is anybody in history that has got on board a Ryanair aircraft with less than a pound."
O'Leary has a reputation as a cost cutter, expanding Ryanair by offering low headline fares and charging extra for items such as additional luggage.
Last week, Ryanair announced it was to shut all check-in desks at airports and have passengers check in online instead.
"We're all about finding ways of raising discretionary revenue so we can keep lowering the cost of air travel," he said.

And if you feel sick at the thought and have to use the sick bag..................maybe another £1 levy for that.0 -

Why should you expect the same service on Ryanair as you get on conventional airlines?
Yes some things should be the same, like safety but Ryanair can do what they want. If they decide to charge for you to go to the toilet then that's up to them.
Ryanair offers low cost air travel. And as far as providing low cost air travel they are among the best around. Well done Ryanair.
If it is me that should be ashamed, then I assure you I am not.
I have rarely paid less than £300 rtn for my flights which are booked at short-ish notice (regular business flying). How do you think Ryanair funds the free flights? - I really resent being asked to pay for everything (including toilets as being reported today) when I pay more than I would if I could be arsed to travel to heathrow and fly on BA, and then having MO'L shove his arrogant press annoucements down my throat all flight telling me how much I should love being shafted on the lowest cost/worlds favourite airline.
anyway, this is besides the point.. the original one was just how ryanair make up their fees and taxes to such extortionate levels.. I'm all for free trade and think a company should be able to charge what they want, but they should not be able to misinform the public about their prices. They really are not the worlds lowest cost airline to the majority of their passengers.
As for service levels on ryanair, I've always been well treated, the flights have been (generally) on time, and the maintenance of their aircraft is second to none,. If only they could provide transparency to their pricing (I'm talking fares ranging from free to £1/2/399 each way) it would be a good step. To maintain their free offers during difficult times I believe they're having to charge much, much more from those that need to fly. They need to return a sense of getting value for money from those that keep the company going (people like myself paying extortinate fares) and not make us feel like we're being ripped off left, right and centre.0 -

You should soon see a reduction in the cost of your £300 flights now that they are planning to charge for loo useage.0 -
I just wonder what they will do if someone is bursting and does not have £1?
When I am going on holiday I sometimes only have the currency I am going to be using when I get there as I pretty much use my card for anything £ and don't usually have change! Would they just let you go on the floor and then charge for cleaning?
I have normally defended ryanair as I have had some bargain flights with them but this is definitely a step too far :rolleyes:Proud meowmy of four fuzzy cats0 -

O'Leary really is the Ringmaster in the Media Circus.
He must be lapping up the publicity for Ryanair.
But then he really is the most weaselly toad I've ever had the misfortune to meet. The man without a signature.0 -
The word is 'might', it is a publicity stunt!
The charges for large hand luggage bags are more likely IMHO.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Exactle how I feel cheesecat. - and now imagine being one of those (considereable amount of Ryanair's passengers) who don't usually get the bargain flights, because they need to fly somewhere, but ryanair offers the only viable route.
Ryanair needs to return that sense of value.
I guess you just need to look at Easyjet to see how a low cost airline can also make you you feel more valued. (and it's often cheaper on the same routes)0
