  • Oh gosh 15 pages already! I had set myself the challenge of joining in with you lovely ladies today but as I've only just got had my tea I'm either going to be able to get on and try to clean something or read the thread!

I do need some help though, we're in a rental house at the moment that we are giving up in the middle of March so I've got just over a month to get tidied up and clean ready to pack and go. Hubby is currently living an hour and a half away looking after my Dad and trying to get a big block shed built at that end so that we can put most of our stuff into store as we're moving to Dad's and building a Grampy annexe for Dad to go into so that we are close to hand to help him out as he's struggling healthwise. So I'm having to sort this out up here on my own whilst working full time (out of the house 7.30am to 7pm) and then go and visit them at weekends and I'm starting to panic big time!

I'm really rabbit in headlights about it all, I just don't know where to start. I made a start last week with the cooker but it was so nasty that I've cleaned it five or six times and it's still not clean. I've now got a steam cleaner and I'm going to have another go this evening.

    Help!

Piglet - hello. Firstly you don't have to keep up with the thread, no one minds. The key info you need is in the first post. Just do level 1 of the first post jobs each day for now - each week it will get easier to do. Post to say you have done it if it helps you, don't worry about feeling that you have to have read to post. Don't obsess with the detail of the oven - maybe clean it once a week when you do the kitchen day, over time it will get better. If it is the shelves/detachable bits then an hour in the bath with some soda chrystals works wonders - the dirt mostly slides off. About 60p in Willkos.

And to quote 'it didn't get in a mess overnight it wont get sorted over night either'!

Pitlane - welcome. The worst thing you can do is panic. Just take one job at a time. Or one room at a time. If you try to do everything all at once you'll get nothing done. Write yourself a list of what needs to be done and tick them off one by one and stay focussed. Forget the cooker for now - and work on other things that you will see an improvement on.

Toots - well done you :A for taking in the old lady. Poor thing - if she's worried about being put in a home by her daughter. That must be quite a frightening prospect.

Half an hour sawing has been done. Bin room negotiated with Nice Neighbour (our bin men didn't come last week because of the snow if you remember). Cauliflower cheese and celery and bacon cheese cooking in the oven. Potatoes on for mash.

    Hi everyone,

Very tired, we underestimated how long it would take to do dd's room, dh was unexpectedly working saturday so i did as much as i could myself(emptied room, lifted carpet, glossed and painted walls) then when he was back he helped me start the wallpapering and then on sunday we finished off the papering, laid her new carpet and put everything back:T .
She loves it but we're exhausted:p

I'm pleased i had the rooms done before we started because we literally put everything back and upstairs is nice and tidy.

Going to do as much of todays list as i can but my shoulders are really aching - i'll let you know later how much we get done.

    hope everyone is ok

  • pitlanepiglet I have sent you a pm - as the others have said - chill - dont panic - dont worry about reading the thread but PLEASE try to post each evening so we can encourage you and help if we can. babysteps will work for you too - just keep working on what is necessary and it will all come together - as soappie said - make a list - a huge long list of absolutely everything that needs to be done before you go and then just work at it - its hard being on your own without hubby but sometimes we can achieve more if left to get on with things - we women can focus!!!
just a suggestion - if you clean and pack some things like ornaments and dishes that you wont need just now it will make cleaning round easier and you will be getting organised at the same timeIYSWIM - be sure to label or list whats in your boxes so if you need to look for anything it will be quicker than going through them all.

we are all here to help - but dont waste your precious time catching up on the thread!

    toots xx

Evening allI thought tonight I'd get on with the list before coming onto the laptop, and I've also caught up with the thread. Been in my pjs since we finished dinner an hour ago, got cold and wet at work. Should really have a bath but the bathroom's chilly so can't face it really! Although it was cold and wet I enjoyed the walk and my hips has been a bit sore through the lack of walking so this should improve it!

Well apart from Homebase did everything today.

And thanks sunnygirl & toottifrootti. Tootti, I am feeling ok atm so am cleaning when I can! Flylady has helped so much though, none of the jobs take so long anymore!

I have tomorrows list up. Thats not a problem, looking round the room! Will put the cusion covers onto wash now though & hopefully they'll dry overnight.

    2 questions.

HOw do I clean the wallpaper in here. Its normal stuff. Its handmarks from the kids. I don't want to wet it just incase!

And I cooked salmon for dinner. I had the fan on, the back door & window open & a bowl of vinegar by the hob. It still smells down here. How can I get rid of the smell. I HATE airfreshners, they make me sneeze. So I have none. I can smell it now so in the morning it'll hit me something terrible!
